Yeah, but it was prescibed for depression and stress-related anxiety, rather than SOCIAL anxiety in particular.

No and don't want none either thanks, as they always say, drugs treat the symptoms not the cause. If there is no real cause your ****ed. Oh well I knew that anyway :P

Yeah but like, with me for example, the physical symptoms are very visible - I shake very bad, blush, can't breath properly, stutter/mix up my words. If I went to docs and they gave me some kind of anti-anxiety drugs I'd be stuck on them drugs for the rest of my life. But if I just live it with, I believe such symptoms will eventually calm down as I get older. Thats what I think anyway. It's a personal choice I guess. Obviously if I felt I had chronic SA then I'd definately want a quick solution, but as it's worse in certain situations, for example, having to speak to a group of people I don't know much, then I can live with it.

I'd only want to use meds as a last choice, after everything else had failed. I think they are still quite scarey to most people.

I take Paroxetine which was specifically prescribed for social anxiety, even though it's an anti-depressant and propranolol. I've been on them for years and without them I would not have been able to function as the physical symptoms I have had in the past have been so overwhelming. They have helped me to make some progress but I don't look forward to coming off them because I've heard the side effects are terrible. Then again my GP has said I can stay on them for as long as needed, so I could be on them for ever! I don't have any side effects while on them so I'm in no hurry to stop taking them.

Not specifically for SA, no. I have severe Pure O aswell and I'm on:

Citalopram - 60mg daily
Propranolol - 80mg daily (decreased dosage from 360mg)
Vitamin B Strong Compound - Two pills a day
Thiamine 300mg - 3 pills a day
Acamprosate - 1998mg, 6 pills a day

I also have a stash of Xanax, Valium and Temazepam, full strength, and I abuse Skunk to f**k.

Nah, no pills ever. Wouldn't feel right with all the unnatural rubbish to be put in body. Rather take alternative holistic approach

^ Body dysmorphic disorder

As for me, I'm on 40mg Citalopram. I used to be on 60mg Seroxat, but they done very little for me. Citalopram has helped a bit in terms of anxiety, and has also helped with my depression. I don't like taking them, but only when I start to feel truly satisfied with my life will I consider coming off of them.

Not for SA specificially, more for anxiety and depression. I've been on 75mg of Efexor for god knows how long, I'm not even convinced it's helping me any more but it's such a b***rd to come off I keep on persisting with it.

I just don't think meds will help my issues and don't want to change the way i think as..I like it. Hence why CBT didn't work. I just wish I could cope with life more on a daliy basis and walk in to rooms without feeling crap , BDD is hard to deal with.
I take a lot of meds for an illness so I would rattle if I started taking them for mental health reasons.
what is this illness? you mention it alot on threads.

SSRIs don't change the way you think, they merely have the potential to take the edge off of anxiety and depression. However, it's our thinking patterns that result in our anxiety, so wouldn't you want to change the way you think in that sense?

I've been on 20mg of Citalopram since september and after about three weeks it's like swollowing a tik tak.

I avoided drugs for a decade but decided that I'd give them a go.

As i've heard it (at first being pretty sceptical about meds) they can give you the oppertunity to change thinking patters due to removing or reducing the emotional/phsyical feelings you get.

I can't believe I actually mentioned my problem on the forums tbh.

I would'nt be suprised if people did'nt believe what I told them because its very rare.

The illness has changed over time with me so in some ways it's better (if you can call it that  ) but in others it's worse, and will continue to get worse.

I haven't been on meds since 2003.

I DO have access to several quite-large strips of 30mg codeine phosphate, and some Indian 25mg Valiums, and occasionally take the odd dose of either, the latter when I KNOW I have a day off.
