Re: ZX Spectrum or Commodore 64?
MSX --> Amiga --> PC --> N64
The msx had a CARTRIDGE SLOT. Woo. Konami cartridges were worth their weight in gold. But were £15 each in 1986. Freakin' scandalous. |

Re: ZX Spectrum or Commodore 64?
I convinced my local corner shop to lend me games for free (to copy) so that I could bring them back with a little written review that he could use when trying to sell them to folks. As I am sure we all remember the covers bared very little resemblance to the actual game. Its crazy when I think back to the crap I used to manage back in those days.
Mastertronic mainly, I guess I would have been around 12 or 13. |

Re: ZX Spectrum or Commodore 64?
I never really got into consoles as a kid. Although as an adult I <3 my PS4 now
I was lucky that I had access to computers from a pretty young age. My route was Vic 20 --> Spectrum (the one with the attached tape drive, not the smaller one with rubber keys) --> C64 --> Amiga 500 (my all time fav, as I had that around the teenage years of my life when I really got into gaming) --> and finally various PCs. |

Re: ZX Spectrum or Commodore 64?
^ I literally only ever played nemesis/gradius on it, I think that is all that he had. I mean, once you get that why would you bother getting another cart and risk being disappointed ? Its also the only reason I got a gameboy.

Re: ZX Spectrum or Commodore 64?
Makes me wonder if perhaps they'd used standard 3.5 it might have been more popular. It's not like Amstrad ever made a bad decision though

Re: ZX Spectrum or Commodore 64?
I am not sure I ever saw a game for sale on disk come to think of it, I am sure it was a great idea its just the fact the world wasnt ready for a 5 year old computer bolted to an unreliable non standard media format that you couldnt find disks for
It did have a quite nice keyboard but so did the +2. Sent from an amstrad E-mailer. |

I always knew I liked Lord Sugar for some reason
I remember the arguments between Amiga owners and Atari ST owners. Yeah the ST did midi stuff but it was no match for the good old Amiga |

Re: ZX Spectrum or Commodore 64?
Woah, I didn***8217;t have a c64 so wasn***8217;t familiar with their games. But that one ^ is a lot more akin to an amiga game than a spectrum game. Yet I thought c64 was a contemporary of spectrum rather than amiga, release date and spec for example. Impressive.

Although... I think I***8217;m doing down my old rubber keyed friend. Just remembered that Pyjamarama, Everyone***8217;s a Wally etc had similar quality graphics to ^^ and they were spectrum releases

C64 was capable of much better graphics and of course sound, but was much more expensive
Now I wait to inevitably be proven wrong |

Re: ZX Spectrum or Commodore 64?
for anyone interested, this is my favourite retro gaming channel, covering loads of commodore 64 and spectrum topics, games, music etc. their mini-docus about some of the more prominent software houses of the time, such as ocean, imagine, psygnosis and all the rest of the usual suspects, are particularly enjoyable. have watched many hours of their content, recommended ^-^
here's their ocean vid |
