Default I lost £400 gambling in the last week...

A little more. It seems that there's only one solution to my imbecility now.

Only one thing I can do.

I've tried to militate against my two 'moments of madness' by not spending a thing in nine days (other than the money gambled), but it all seems to be a hopeless struggle that I can't hope to overcome. I was officially diagnosed with "pathological gambling" (it even has its own ICD-10 code F63.0) whilst in hospital last year (and "severe depression F33.3"), but 'went straight' for over a year. Now I'm buggered...

@Lonely boy what medication are you on ? Some medications -abilify,effexor for example- have been linked with gambling.

No, they could not. Since I have SA, I can't contact, meet or talk to strangers. I need a hobby to occupy my hopeless days. Train-spotting sounds nice but they don't let you on the platform without a ticket, so I may have to recce some level crossings and perhaps bring a vacuum flask with Scotch in it (to keep it chilled at its optimum drinking temperature). I can't abide tepid Scotch. Necessarily I shall need some paper and a pen to write some notes. About the trains I see. Also dozens of Klonopin to calm my nerves if I get overexcited when seeing a rare train.

Thanks. I might visit the local Citizens Advice Bureau to see if they can help.

As Sean says, you need help and this is probably the best place LB.

If you're using high street bookmakers, tell them you want to ban yourself from betting with them; they will not let you in.
If it is with an on-line bookie, e-mail them and ask for a ban and they will ban you.

I have been on Effexor (venlafaxine) for several years. I started it 2-3 years ago, before I ever gambled anything. I've had two bouts of ruinous gambling. Early 2014 which indirectly led me to hospital, and this week. I take quetiapine, too, an atypical anti-psychotic. Is the Effexor gambling link strong? I've changed other meds several times over the years but stayed on Effexor. Thanks.

I play mostly roulette online. I have requested and received several bans.

Well, a consultant psychiatrist thinks that I do. "Pathological gambling" is termed as a disease and as a behaviour that I keep repeating -- can't reasonably control -- even though I know that the behaviour is a self-defeating one and that the behaviour is harming not only myself, but also people who care about inheriting my money.
