39. Why don't you go and say hello to uncle x? (um, no!)

40. If you give me a call in x days we'll arrange something. (this is usually said by a shrink/counsellor who I've just spent an hour talking to about my problems, including phones!)

41. What's so hard about answering a phone? You can always hang up.

I did my work experience in a primary school and I loved it, I was so happy. At the end the teacher whose class I was working in had to give me a review, she said I did well but she didn't think I had the confidence needed to succeed in that line of work. It really crushed me

That sucks, its comments like that, that make you lose confidence, like you get a glimmer of hope, then get shot down, but if it makes you happy, go for it anyway

I don't know why really but comments like 'we are all friends here' I don't find that helpful. It makes me feel worse or guilty even that I should be feeling so nervous. I know they are just trying to be helpful.

Similar happened with me..
I did my work experience in a residential home. Although I was quiet and nervey, and I did struggle, but I thought by the end of it I had done fairly well and felt proud of myself, I really enjoyed it there, however my report said that I lacked confidence and would do better in the future when I had gained confidence and a vocation more suited to me. I was really hurt by this. I thought why would she even put this? Is this report not destined for my record of acheivement and aimed at helping me get a job? So many things like this happened throughout my childhood and adolescence that I think I decided to never try.

More recently I went out with my bf's sis, bcoz of the alcohol i didn't notice at the time, but she kept saying "don't worry we'll make you one of us" I had a great night but thinking of this the next day felt a fool, I thought they were my friends (some memebers of his family) but clearly my lack of fitting in had been noted ... I know she was trying to help but..

Can I just say I love this thread

One I seem to get a lot is 'she's shy' - spoken aloud in my presence as if I'm not even there stood right next to them and as if that doesn't make everything a hundred times more unbearable.

Guys some of these are brill...well done and glad you like the thread!!!!!

I started writing a novel a few months ago centred around SA and the funny things people say to you, thats where i got the idea for the thread. When i've finished first chapter, might post it up to give you a laugh.
