The Grudge - 2/10
Totally disjointed, confusing and badly edited,
Still have no idea what was meant to be happening in it, even after watching it all.

I can imagine it will disappoint a few people, it's not a huge glossy cgi-fest, it's not full of gratuitous blood and gore, it's not schmaltzy and overly romanticised either.
It's sympathetically told, without excessive glamour.

Thanks so much for posting that lovely review Clementine, it's made me want to see the film more than ever. I shall be going to see it tomorrow with my mum and son. Hopefully there's things in the film that will keep an old lady, a middle aged lady and a 14 year old boy happy

Dunkirk - 8/10

I wasn't initially all that bothered about seeing this film due to the fact that this was a catastrophic military disaster -- it's not the best thing to focus on as a British citizen. However, it was worth seeing in the cinema for the sound effects, and I think it was a very realistic account of the situation. Having said this, if they are going for realism, then perhaps they could have actually had more blood and guts, because that's the reality of war.

American History X - 8/10

I can be sometimes lukewarm when it comes to Ed Norton and even more so with Ed Furlong, but really enjoyed this.

The Magnificent Seven. It was magnificent, so I'll give it a 7.

I'm not sure if this is the antihistamines talking, but I do love me a Western film.

John Wick - 2/10

on paper,. I imagined I'd like this,.
Keanu Reeves is usually good, as is Willem Dafoe and Ian McShane, also has Reek from G.O.T.
but jesus,.. what a steaming pile of old tosh,..
ridiculously infantile plot, cartoon villains,
and so, so many hackneyed clichéd plotlines and dialogue, awful

^ Yeah, I went into that expecting it to be a cut above most action films, from all the hype it had, but it was just dumb. And Keanu Reeves, as nice a person as he's meant to be, and as committed he was to the role with training to be an actual gun ninja, he has all the on-screen charisma of a bit of old cheese, even when he's playing the stone cold killer archetype.

I got about 1/3 to 1/2 way through and gave up on John Wick :/

The Possession 6/10 Nothing amazing and a bit predictable but still a nice little film to pass time. Having a Jewish exorcism instead of a catholic one got me thinking as to why I never thought about other old religions also performing exorcisms.

Arrival. I enjoyed it, but I didn't really understand it, and was left pretty lost at the end. Then the credits came up and said it was directed by Denis Villeneuve, so at least my confusion made sense. He likes his big CGI spidery things, doesn't he.

^^ Even though it was slightly boring, I liked it, found it original, kinda good. Watched it quite a while ago and don't really remember if it was really that confusing?
I just can tell for sure that it's not even close to be such confusing as David Lynch films.

Have you tried reading Wikipedia article on the movie or IMDB's frequently asked questions about the movie? Even if I was confused, I read Wikipedia or IMDB and it came clear to me

I actually didn't find it boring. The whole thing of trying to communicate with aliens was really interesting, and how the world reacts to 'first contact'. I guess it's just that I found the last 20 minutes or so of the film to be a bit 'Ta-da! Now you know', when it didn't seem to really make much sense and actually made the film less interesting to me. Mysteries should either have a really good pay-off, or just stay as mysteries, IMO.

Lynch's films are confusing too, but I don't get the impression that they're meant to be fully understood, more that you feel them as much as you rationally understand them. I doubt when he included tiny spurting chickens and decapitated head dealers in Eraserhead, he was thinking 'Oh, the audience will totally get this, I mean it's obvious really when you think about it.'

I'm tempted to read up on it, but... ehhh. Either I'll read someone who's really confident and know-it-all and I'll feel stupid, or I'll get bogged down in a mire of 'Only intelligent people can truly understand, go watch Fast and Furious lol' guff. The older I get, the more selective I have to be about where I go on the internet, for my own sanity.

It? More like... Poo. Am I right?

Nah, It was okay. Just okay though. It felt very formulaic with the scares, they were just CGI set pieces disconnected from the rest of the film, and they tended to shoot themselves in the foot by being too in your face about it.

The new Pennywise was alright when he got to act all sinister and clownish, and wasn't bouncing around the place in, again, wonky CGI.

Cowboys and Aliens 7/10
At first it didn't like it would work, but then it melded quite well. Was a kind of a copy of Stargate, but with mixes of a western and Indiana Jones.

A 1990s movie called "Ravenous" starring Robert Carlyle and Guy Pierce.

A gory story of Cannibalism in The Rocky mountains of the USA in the mid 19th Century.

Perfectly ok 6/10.

Warning : this might put you off eating Stew for a while afterwards!

A Dark Song - 7.5 / 10

I recommend this if you like horror films that dont scare you with cheap jump scares, its creepy and original, its a low budget film and a bit of a slow burner but still really good
