Default Words You Can't Say Right

Are there any words that you always butcher the life out of when saying them?

'Behavioural' always comes out of my mouth as 'bee-hay-vee-oar-ree-ull'. I cannot say it.
Whenever I try to say 'Authoritative' it comes out as 'authoritive'. I struggle to get that extra 'rit-ta' in there, and if I do manage to get the 'rit' bit in, the rest of it just runs away from me 'author-rit-tit-tit-tive'.

I can't pronounce 'Karl', it comes out like 'Carol'.

I think it's something all Scottish people struggle with.

It's been pointed out to me recently that I say 'Chitchester' instead of Chichester.
It's messed with my head, I look at Chichester and now don't know how to prounce it at all. Cheechester?

^^Things would get very confusing if there was a Scot on The Walking Dead. He said 'Carol' but he was looking at 'Karl'. This guy's insane.

^That reminds me of one I think most people here are going to admit to struggling with: Worcestershire. 'Can you please pass me the Woo-uh-chest-eye-uh-er-shire sauce?'

Itinerary is a bugger, itnerararary is what I usually come out with.

Oh, and any words that start with a long 'th' sound, which I pronounce with a 'f' instead

^Yep, I just tried 'itinerary' and it's not happening.

I quite like it when people say f's in place of th's. "Where do you work, love?" "Over fer, I'm a fespian in fuh featre, fanks very much."

^ I said long 'th', not short 'th' - there and the don't count

February is another one - do you pronounce both r's or only 1!?

Thorough. Poop on that word, I never know how to say it. I end up pronouncing it "fawruh" or "fawrow" or "fuhroo" (it's worse when I try to pronounce the "th" )
When I hear others say it they say it so right, but I can't seem to mimic them on this word

I speak the queen's English therefore everything is correct and proper.

I struggle to say lieutenant as 'leftenant' though, which apparently is the British way. I think it is columbo's fault.

I think I pronounce it 'Wooster-shire' (like Bertie) which can't be right, can it.

'Colonel'. But I think that's more because I've never been clear on how it's actually meant to be said.

I tried to say 'unconscionable' the other day in conversation but it came out sounding more like I was making a remark on the nearby upholstery. That'll teach me.

^ I use his other name - God.

See, I always thought it was something like 'kernal', but then when you see the word written down that just seems wrong.

^ Its a secret code to stop the scum from getting in to see him, they ask for colonel and get told he is fictional and that it is not possible. Ask for the kernal you get shown straight through to him, sometimes he even makes my burger himself !

^ Show off. The most he's done for me is let me sit on his lap while my mini fillets were transferred from warming container to packet to box. I was off so quickly that his goatee barely had time to tickle my nose.

'Quinoa'

I have to say it about three times in my head before I get it right. 'Kwin-oh-ah... Kwin-Wah... Keen-Wah.'

Not that I encounter quinoa very often day to day.

I can only seem to pronounce 'girl' as 'gurrul'.
I really struggle with 'rural' too, it feels wrong in my mouth.

I do exactly the same thing. It's like my brain needs to be brought to the word slowly.

Recently I found out that I've been calling a delicious potatoey snack the wrong thing.

I say croquet potatoes because I thought that's what their name was. It sounded right because they look like the end of a croquet mallet.

They're actually called Potato croquettes. Rubbish!

Ambulance I say as Amblumence

And I cannot pronounce incendiary, not that I need to say it in everyday conversation.

Whoops. Sorry, I misunderstood the thread with my previous post!

I don't like the way I say cabbage and spinach. It sounds different to everyone else, so I avoid ever using those words.

@Clem - I pronounce it geiw

The name Rahul, I pronounce row (as in argument).

I slaughter the language orally, often having to repeat things to people. This can be a good thing, for example when customers phone me I can avoid their nonsense by claiming all I do is "pick 'n' pack 'n' at", suckers.

Not me, but the therapist I was seeing pronounced ugly, 'ugg-uh-lee'. The first time I noticed it I thought it must have been a mistake, but she kept with it. When she said things like, 'well, if everyone thought you were ugg-uh-lee...' the annoying (and main) part of me would want to be like, 'I don't think everyone thinks I'm ugg-uh-lee...'

She spoke like an average southerner in every other way apart from that. Sometimes I wonder whether she did it on purpose for some sneaky reason.

All 'th' sounds come out as 'f' sounds. Three is free.

Sometimes, I have what I call a wordfumble, where the words tumble out malformed and I give up and start again. Sometimes I mix up the first letters of adjacent words. This is why I cba to talk much.

^ I get wordfumbles too! I end up going blubububhghguhbhgighgj and then I start again, or I just go with the newly invented word that came out of my mouth.
