Default Anemia or Low Iron = Depression/Anxiety

Hi,

after having suffered through Depression (suicidal) and Anxiety, and after spending much money on private tests, I managed to convince my GP to have me tested for Low Iron. But she was convinced that I didn't have it, so much so that she said she would be a "monkey's uncle" if I did have Low Iron or Anemia.

Well, the test proved I did (I'll be taking a banana in for her the next time I see her!).

I then found out just what the symptoms were for Low Iron (and/or) Anemia:

Depression
Anxiety
Fatigue
Social Withdrawl
Restlessness
Irritability
Rapid Heart Beat
Decreased Concentration
Insomnia
Lightheadedness / Dizziness
Feeling Cold
Poor Nails / Hair
etc....

Here's the link for anyone who thinks this might apply to them:

I'd tested my Thyroid before convincing my doctor to do this test, as Thyroid problems, along with other health problems, cause the same symptoms. It's worth checking out the various conditions to see if that is the cause of your Anxiety or Depression, etc.

This is interesting because a year ago before I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression My gp did bloods for me and I had aneamia.I took tablets he gave me for a few months then got told to stop taking them. Got my blood tested 6 months later and everything was fine.In the meantime He told me I had depression and anxiety problems and sent me to a psychologist.

I had those symptoms before becoming hypogonadal. It maybe worth a shot getting your Test levels checked. They may be dropping.

I had my blood tested a few weeks ago as my levels of fatigue and drowsiness were awful, I suspected it was down to my diet being a vegan but all my vitamin levels were normal, b12, iron and so on and I do not take any supplements. (People do not fall ill becoming a veg*n, they become ill for not eating a balanced diet, think greens, nuts/seeds, fruit).

My only abnormality was my thyroid level which is high and may explain partially why I've suffered anxiety/depression/low levels of energy for most of my life.

Last time i had my bloods done was back in 2009....I had to have a transfusion as me plaitletts which are ment to be between 120-400+ were at 15, I went back 6 wks later to make sure all was ok (Clair Rainer was there!)and they were fine. Only concern on my bloods was an elevated Rhumatoid aurthritis reading. Ment to be 24 mines only 26.

That a makes sense to me as people were always saying to me I look too white or coming up and saying to me I look very pale which I used to feel was rude but even my my boss in the tyre garage for example used to call me "the corpse" for a joke. And was always pointing out to me how my eyes looked too red about the rims, obvioulsy they stood out as my eyes are on the large side and due to being so pale skinned.

Maybe threre is something in a link with Anaemia and SA. Thanks for the links I'll check those out.

(i'm a heavy smoker maybe that could descrease the oxygen carrying on my red blood cells causing anaemia like symptoms something else to think about - smoking and SA - a possible link ? )

If that's true mate then get it seen to. Hyperthyroidism is high, hypothyroidism is low. I know all about this hormone shit. every single hormone and what it does I know about. I am the master of hormonal knowledge.

Hyperthyroidism (high thyroid hormone) isn't good for you. It could break you down one day. That's why there are mesicines to treat it because it can mess you up in the long run.

Default Re: Anemia or Low Iron = Depression/Anxiety

i have most if them symptoms i dont actually know what the cause of what is..or which came first..or why i have..what...etc

all i know is when i was younger i had to go to the specialist quite a lot because my kidneys was being silly..my urine had protein in it..i had ultrasounds and stuff and it all came back fine so they just made me go back every year for a check up..freaked me out everytime

well 1 year it was like..good news! the proteins gone!...bad news..now its blood, i dont think it was high enough to force them into doing any more with me as i would have been dead against it..so i would go back the next year and i must have got lucky as it was clear one year..so i never went back (this will have been when i was about 14-15) ..i to this day dont know if its come back or if its still doing it..ive had blood tests for numerous other things (allergys and stuff) and ive had low iron counts...low sodium counts..and something else...the iron they just said..oh i dont know it must be that your anemic and was never questioned again, i dont know if its because my kidneys are not working properly or what! (the sodium one seemed to clear up itself)

..so yeah..i dont know..do i have anemia because of my kidneys..or because of something totally different..is it causing my depression..or is the depression because of SA giving me a fairly Meh quality of life and how i think of myself..its quite an interesting topic for me..but i really dont know whats what with my situation
