Default Any folk no about Prozac withdrawal?

I really wanna stop taking medication as I have a sneaking suspicion that it is making me worse in many respects (they all have done) I am aware, as doc told me that you cut down gradually, although I don't remember what he said exactly in regard to amounts, forgotten, doh. I am taking 2 a day at mo (20mg per capsule)
Is it hell going through withdrawal on these things does anyone know? arrrghhhhh. (Goes and hides under bed at the very prospect)
If anyone has any advice about this would be much appreciated.

I stopped taking 20mg prozac about a month ago and actually felt better for it. I found no negative side-effects or anything. TBH, I think that prozac is supposed to be one of the easier SSRIs to come off.

edit: I just stopped, there was no cutting down the dose or anything.

I take 40mg a day too. In the past when I've just stopped taking prozac I've been fine for the first couple of weeks but then plummeted very quickly and crashed and burned basically. :-/ My advice is talk about it with your doctor and stop taking them gradually with their assistance. You might be fine doing it on your own but, personally, I don't think it's worth taking the risk. Good luck anyway. :-)

I've been on venlafaxine for 5 years. I've heard its one of the most difficult to come off. Tried many times to very little avail.

Will I try again? Probably, because I'm a stubborn b*st*rd, and I want to know whether I can cope without it. Might try the nutrition approach, but it seems a bit of a ball-ache compared to just popping the pills.

I'm looking at the following website's advice on withdrawal techniques at the minute. Looks OK, but after 5 years you cannot help me feel cynical.........

Hi,

I have been on and off prozac for 7 years now.

I find it fine, I get few side affects and prefer to be on it to be fair.

Good luck

I wouldnt recommend just stopping it, you're much more likely to get withdrawal symptoms. You should be ok if you talk to the doc and cut down gradually.
