Creeping Americanisms. Now you see everywhere "movies" (instead of films), "video games" (instead of computer games), "guy" is rapidly beating off bloke or chap (perhaps because guy can even be used for women, too). Apparently secondary school is now even called "high school". People using "ass" instead of arse.
What's next - trousers being called pants? Or high school "proms"? Sophomores and fraternities?

"Video games" has been more frequently used for years now, probably because it refers to all games played using any kind of screen, e.g. consoles, phones, arcades, etc, and isn't limited to only those played on computers. Lots and lots of Britishisms have crept into the US in recent years. It works both ways. "High school" as a term has been part of some British school names for centuries though, it's nothing new.

Mostly unrelated, but the worst term of all is "box set". People use that all the time now to mean simply "television show". It's even on adverts for streaming services. There was one advertising Sky or Virgin that said "stream all the latest box sets". I guess it's the same as when people say "CD" to refer to an album. "Just listening to Ed Sheeran's new CD on Spotify."

Don't knock it!
At least he's interested, I'm lucky if I get one message a day from my bf.

I've only heard one and I used to live in the US: w*nker is catching on with some people.

Can you give some more examples?

Yeah, wanker has been used widely for a while now, and twat is getting very popular. Shag, innit, mate, loo, frock... university is said a lot more now instead of college, autumn instead of fall is getting quite common, and more frequently you'll hear holiday instead of vacation.

^ LOL, I never heard any of those except - once in a while, shag - and I lived there for years. I've never heard anyone using autumn, and most often they use "school" (awful) for university. College is still the standard term in my experience, along with school.
They tend to think anyone saying mate is Australian.
I never heard anyone using holiday either. Maybe it depends where in America you are, lol.

Very true, but he's not properly available, so I really can't end up wanting more from him (if I'm not already).

You deserve more than a text a day - make that fella know it.

Most of the time we live together however we both work so most days don't see each other from 8 til 6, sometimes longer.
He's usually messaging his friends throughout the day but very rarely bothers to message me unless he wants me pick up something for dinner on my way home.

I always used to message him at lunch to see how his day was going but I decided to leave it and see if he would bother to check on me once in a while but no.

Maybe I'm just being needy?

People in Youtube videos saying "I'll see you next time"
No, that's not how broadcasts work... I'll see you next time.
(Actually it doesn't even really annoy me, I just think it's kinda funny)

We have an egg eating lady on our train. It's 8:15 am that is far too early for a hard boiled egg.

On a packed commuter train I don't usually have enough space to eat anything - except maybe the hair of the person who is wedged in next to me!

Currently in a hotel next to Birmingham airport after the most annoying "5 minute walk" I've ever made. It look at least six times that. It looked so close and easy to walk between the train station and the hotel on the map, but this whole place (the NEC, train station, airport, Resorts World) is only built for cars. Roads that can't be crossed because there are barriers along the pavements, paths that lead into huge car parks with locked exits, no signs to anywhere, having to double back because Google maps doesn't match reality

I agree 100%. I assume it's mostly due to people being exposed to American TV programmes and general "culture" through the web from such an early age (yes, I watched some American cartoons as a child, but most other stuff was British). I had a friend (though we no longer speak) who would talk about opening the hood/trunk of his car, or running out of gas. There were more Americanisms he used which escape me at the moment. It wasn't always the case though; he became more and more "Americanised" in his language throughout our friendship. My young nephew (who spends far too much time on Youtube IMO) always refers to money in dollars, and last week, he was telling me about someone at school acting like a big baby and said they should be wearing a diaper.

I think the one that annoys me most (although it has seemingly been going on for many years) is people referring to dates in the American format. Today is the 27th of November, not November 27th. We all seem to accept that 9/11 refers to September 11th and not the 9th of November, but that's understandable I suppose. I can see the current young generation growing up and starting to write dates in the MM/DD/YYYY format and it's going to lead to the total collapse of civilisation as we know it.

It should be YYYY-MM-DD universally in this age, as this sorts correctly on computers.

I think they're a great option for transport when you have anxiety since you can just press a button on an app, watch the car driving to you on a map so you know exactly when it's arriving, then have the money paid automatically at the end of the trip so you don't have to deal with that or thinking about a tip. It's also useful when you're in a country where you don't speak the language. I've had more bad trips in regular taxis than in Ubers.

It annoys me my town has refused to let Uber in

when I have been to places that have Uber it seems incredibly useful - yep no awkward conversations/drama with paying & getting change!
