Re: Leading Light in April
It sounds like a worthwhile course to attend.
The only problem I would have is going on my own, I've never been to London before and would be terrified of getting lost or turning up late. Anyone in West Yorkshire going down? |

Re: Leading Light in April
Looks like I won't be going. I'm giving a presentation and demonstration of some software I've been working on to the head of sales of some uber mega corp or other on Friday afternoon + a scary number of Sirs and Dames and various senior executives and board members. If it goes well then I might be off to the US early next week for a repeat performance to our NA partners. If it goes badly then I might lose our company a multi-million pound contract. I was only told I had to do this presentation today.
No pressure there then . I don't suppose if anyone knows if they are going to do another one of these events later in the year? |

Re: Leading Light in April
The sad thing is that I don't actually get that nervous about giving presentations, and yet socialising and getting my hair cut fills me with anxiety...

Re: Leading Light in April
So did anyone end up going? Was it useful?
My presentation and demo went very well by the way, so well that I skipped off work a couple of hours early to go home and come online to book an hotel and tickets for this Leading Light thing only to find everywhere was full that I could afford. Realised why today when the London Marathon was on.... I live over 3 hours away by train from London, so there was no way I was going to catch one around 5-6am and come back the same day. |

If I had gone to the event I'd have probably walked by the entrance quite a few times before daring to go in. So many times I've gone to places like the barbers or small shops and just completely lost the nerve to go in. That's why I prefer to shop on-line or in large shops where I don't feel like the centre of attention. Just heard today that I'm off to the US for the first time ever and have to give presentations to senior execs in companies we own in 3 different cities. Apparently there will be some US government people there too and the military. Yep, I'm going on tour and I'm terrified . Next time remind me to mess up so I don't get asked to do these things again . The presentations don't really bother me to be honest, that's just performance. It's going to be socialising with the other people coming along in the hotels and in transport that's going to be the real trial for me. I really don't think it would go down well if I ran and hid in my room every night and had room service, assuming I could get up the nerve to actually phone room service that is . |

Re: Leading Light in April
Hmm my company has just sent round an email saying all business trips to the US are cancelled until further notice. We are having a meeting tomorrow to see if there is an alternative. Perhaps I'll finally be able to persuade the bosses that most of their jollies abroad are unnecessary and that we should use video conferencing more.
Of course that does mean I'll have to do the presentation(s) on camera . |
