Default Poll: How much do you spend on haircuts

Got my wig chopped yesterday and was just curious how much others spend on this horrible chore.

Charged 37 but pay 40. A bloke cuts hair, i'm a girl...cut and blow dry, or cut and finish as it's now called aparently, which saves me mispronouncing the blow dry bit, limited girly girls in salon, he talks about politics and current affairs and gives me tips on everything in life, no holiday chat or girly crap mentioned. Bargain I think.

In the past I have spent 90 quid on a hair cut and colour. These days I have it done in the trainee beauty salon at my local college for about a tenner for the haircut, and dye it myself at home

Had mine done in Carlisle the other day for £5.50. It was a decent job too, despite four months' growth

Upto £10 , I always ask for scissor cuts as I am allergic to my cut hair least I get some value for money - it takes them about 20 mins plus I get a wash after to get rid of the mini hairs, which is included as well.

Usually £8 for a drycut.
But for highlights and a cut today it cost £25.

Which is really good.

: my last few haircuts have cost me £35-£40
I think that's a total rip-off, I might try one those places that advertise 'models required' for trainees/students next time. Trouble with me is I don't like to hang about, I usually just spot a hairdressers go in, book for about an hour later, get it done and whizz off home. My hair is always vaguely the same even after I've been in, always long. £40 is a bit cheeky I think.
I remember paying £90 at Tony and Guy once for restyle, colour, blow-dry the works etc and they didn't even colour/dye it the red I wanted it! B*stards. It was orange! Never again.

I usually spend about £30 sometimes a little higher or lower depending on where I go. I get my fringe trimmed by my hairdresser sister-in-law who won't take money for it so I usually buy her something nice.
I only get my hair cut every year sometimes 2 years. It's currently half way down my back but I'm getting it cut on Friday.
The only thing I'm worried about is how much to tip.
Does anyone else tip?

I was getting all edgy when I got mine cut lately as I wasn't sure whether to tip or not. I figured you are supposed to so I gave £15 when it cost £13.50.

I hate haircuts, I hate the mirrors, its really tough to sit in front of a mirror for 20 minutes and manage to not look into it without coming across as a complete oddball.

I've never heard of tiping hairdressers, It wouldn't cross my mind to, I think it costs enough as it is without paying more.

I usually tip them a pound, unless I know they're the owner.

At my local salon that I like, I pay between £16-£24 pounds which largely depends on who is on the till and whether they decide to charge me as a bloke or a girl lol. I got a really really good cut there once so was happy to pay £24 for it, but the last time I went it was a different girl and she didn't do it as well, so I felt a little ripped off, but meh, if i'd had the guts to ask she'd probably have done it better.

There is a place in Norwich though that will do any cut and blow dry for £10 and I've heard good things about them, so I want to try them next time.

I used to do it myself, and did an ok job at it to most of the time, but I had a bit of a break down a few years ago and went a bit mad and wanted a new style, and I messed it up badly and ended up losing all my lovely long hair I regretted it so much and since then I've swore never to cut mine ever ever again.

My boss's gf runs the salon i go to, so i get my hair cut for a tenner when it normally costs 20. Wouldn't go there out of choice though, but it's ok!

I try to be a model when I can so it costs very little. I'm going to be a model in May and it's totally free. I hate hairdressers but have to get it tamed now and again.

Glad that it's not just me that gets nervous about tipping.
I'd feel ok if they had a jar that you could put money in, or even if the amount I was paying could be rounded up but it never is.
I'd only want to give them a quid or so but I feel weird going up to the person who has cut my hair and giving them a pound, like I'm giving them pocket money.

How come theres no option for 'i'm a woman and a tenner or less' ?

I never pay more than a tenner.. All I have is a basic cut.. thats not worth more than a tenner!

I usually get my aunty to do mine.. I used to give her money but now i'll put some money in my lil cousins money boxes as a thank you.

I despise hairdressers.. they never give me the haircut i want and i always end up with what resembles a bloody mullet =(

It's really unfair isn't it? the price should be based on the cut, not the sex of the person getting it.

Tipping is something that would never have occurred to me to be honest... but I guess if I'd thought of it, I'd have tipped the girl who did a good job with mine as she really did do a great job... the last girl wouldn't have though as she kind of only did the bare minimum.
