I'm keeping this thread at arm's length at the moment - there are a couple of bands I am dorky as hell about, and I wouldn't want to bore you all. But since I'm here...

The 80's had some good tunes, but I've always preferred the 60's and early 70's.

Now that I think about it, one song from the 80's does strike a chord in me. I just wish I could follow its advice!!!

Don't Worry, Be Happy - 1988

IT'S HALLOWEEN

and I'm adopting that Tim Finn video as an honourary part of this post, cos the video was kinda spooky.

(I liked it a lot, actually. Is there more like that? have no idea what genre you'd call it, but there's a slightly neurotic, angular but smooth, grown-up kind of 80s pop that I totally love, and could always use more of.)

Anyway. Do you want to hear a zombie love song? There's no video, but it's great - the kind of song that Neil Hannon or Alex Kapranos would *kill* to write.

eine symphonie des grauens - the monochrome set

With this - I'm using a spoiler tag for
at the end, but I must have watched this video 30 times and it still cracks me up, so...it maybe doesn't need a spoiler tag. Either way, it's awesome.

kenji sawada - the sixth melancholy

This one isn't as halloween-themed as the others. I'm posting it cos I find it really unsettling. I know this sounds like a bit of a stretch for a video that features a teddy bear army, Steve Strange being terrorised by a puppet of himself and giant liquorice allsorts rolling down the stairs in slow motion, but...actually, that all makes it worse. It feels genuinely unhinged, in a bad way. Or am I just being a wuss? You decide:

visage - mind of a toy

(ps: much love for freeez! will try and remember to come back with more b-boy music sometime.)

I especially like the line, 'my skull gives head, so let's wed'. Very good.
