I have a habit of picking 1-star films such as We (2018). It was the same, awful story told again and again by several different viewpoints. Not even the nudity saved it.

Wicked Little Letters

All of the funny bits were in the adverts. The cast were good but the plot felt so plodding. It's a shame, as on paper it sounded like it could be pretty brilliant. 4/10

I tried watching Dune 1 yesterday in preparation for seeing Dune 2 tomorrow but lasted all of 45 minutes because itssss soooo slowwww. I used 'the voice' to get my partner to turn it off (I kept talking over it). People seem to think it's good, but it isn't really is it?

Just spent my evening watching Cruising, the 1980 Al Pacino leatherfest. It wasn't as explicit as I expected, in fact I don't think there was anything you'd really call nudity, unless you're offended by bare bums in jockstraps. Everything's implied, albeit with the subtlety of a greased fist (which also features). Contains surprise appearances by Al Bundy out of Married with Children and the dad from Boy Meets World, though neither in relation to the fist, alas.

Downton Abbey: A New Era. It was ok, but it wasn't stirring my twinings tea. So I will give this film a generous 7 cucumber sandwiches out of ten.

Poor Things. What a beautiful film. I didn't quite know what to expect going in, I thought maybe it'd be a bit Lars von Trier-ish and just be 2 hours of a woman getting destroyed, but it was literally the opposite. Surprisingly sweet and warm. Also really funny, especially Mark Ruffalo in full pathetic mode.

Glass Onion. Ultimately, poop. Lied to again by reviews. The first one was ok, this one didn't get interesting for an hour and I thought it might redeem itself but it's really stupid and a chore.

I've seen this film too, and have never been sure whether I should have watched it or not. It's quite insane.

Biggles. Maybe not oscar worthy, but definitely worthy of something! I will give it 8 aircraft loops out of 10.

Arrival on Netflix. It's a film about aliens. As alien films go, it was watchable. So I'm going to give this film 7 probes out of 10.

I also thought Arrival was pretty cool, ....I think?

Was is that one with the guy from The Hurt Locker?

It definitely had a few interesting concepts and twists and turns on the go.

In Bruges (2008). 1. Tripe. I rate all films online a 1 if I thought they were not worth anyone's time. But I'm probably a decade too late with most of them.

Absolutely, Mr Nobody. As cool goes, it was definitely in the chilly category. I also thought part of the charm of the film was seeing the aliens. Although when you finally got to see them, it did feel like it was the money shot in the film. It was still watchable afterwards, but it mostly felt like I was spooning the aliens at that point. While eating popcorn of course.

Oh and as for that Hurt Locker actor, I thought he looked familiar. I guess I couldn't recognise him without his hurt locker suit on.

Civil War - this was pretty good, though not the film I was expecting. It's funny when a film's trailers and marketing portray a film as different than it is...presumably for commercial reasons. It's in fact an exploration of journalism, and in particular war reporting. Kirsten Dunst is unusually good in this! Let's say 7.5/10

^ That does make it sound more watchable than the trailer! Have you seen series 2 of Fargo, I loved her performance in that!

^ Well, it's a pretty grueling watch - just one tense stand off after another! I have though I don't remember much. I vaguely remember her being good in that series of Fargo too. Come to think of it she was also good in The Beguiled.

Kirsten Dunst - more than Spiderman's girlfriend.

The Death of Adolf Hitler (1974). Frank Finlay as Hitler.

Oscar Quitak playing Goebbels had an uncanny facial resemblance. Some of the acting was like something out of a school play, though. Very wooden and exaggerated. 6/10

Screwballs - 1983.

An incredibly thought provoking film. Difficult to make sense of all of its layers and nuance. A real classic of its era. Probably requires several viewings to grasp even half of its profundities.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, 7/10. Totally bubblegum, nothing highbrow or a cinematic classic but that wasn't what I was in the mood for anyway, and this was a really fun watch. Odd seeing 'young' Harrison again through CGI, not sure if because of that but bits really felt like watching a game. I enjoyed it.

]The Killer (2023) 6.7 on IMDB but I'd rate it much higher. After a fateful near-miss, an assassin battles his employers and himself, on an international manhunt he insists isn't personal. Starring Michael Fassbender. Based upon the graphic novel series.

BlackBerry. Surprisingly watchable for a film about something I don't care about. Good few bits of baldy Glenn Howerton channelling some Dennis Reynolds rage.
