Got Through A Graduate Interview!!
KICK ASS! This is by far my best anti-social phobia achievement.
But I must admit I was helped a lot by my father who gave me a lift so I wasn't nervous about the complex public transport journey, PLUS a few pops of beta blockers had a nice gentle effect on my anxiety, plus I had prepared lots in advanced (for once). Oh and, I was extremely lucky in that my interviewer was a graduate from my uni, plus he wasn't a HR guy (just an engineer, like the job I'm going for). Some answers I gave to his questions were frowned up in other jobs I'd gone for (shops and theme parks) but in this setting they were spot on. What do you think makes good customer service? Telling the merchandise sales people at Chessington 'world of adventures' (hmmm) that getting all the information about a product so that I could make an informed, sensible decision didn't go down well, but the engineer thought it made sense. It was, dare I say it, quite enjoyable. We ended up laughing together at a few things; why kids think plumbers are engineers, and how little money I had to spare on their company shares. Awesome awesome awesome. So I'm through to the next stage - a scary assessment centre day (???) it could involve group activities, which I'm average on, but those psychometric tests always weed me out. Anyway, I hope this is inspiration to others: a lot of preparation + light drugs (hehe) + support from my father all adds upto me being able to show my potential, although I was still stuttering a little, but they saw past that.
