How to avoid the virus
Has anyone read any tips on how to avoid the virus? Apparently, the paper masks are useless.
In today’s newspaper, a doctor writes that the golden rule is constantly wash your hands. And wash them properly, taking your time and working up a lather. Carrying hand sanitiser is also effective. The second piece of advice is to avoid touching your face. Above all, when you are out never put your fingers near your mouth, nose or eyes. This seems to be a common way of catching viruses - you touch a door handle, or whatever, then bite your nail, pick your nose, rub an itchy eye, etc, and the virus enters your body. |

Re: How to avoid the virus
I think you've answered your own question, Moksha; the steps you describe are the most effective methods of avoiding contagion.
I think the only reason that the coronavirus is associated with face masks (as there was no such association with the SARS outbreak in 2001) is that it originated in a part of the world where people routinely wear them, especially if they themselves have any kind of illness which they don't want to transmit to others. I know that it's caused a little bit of a stir near me, when some Chinese students who live in Sheffield were, after news of the outbreak was released, questioned as to why they were wearing masks when it hadn't previously been an issue. I was in Wuhan nine months before the outbreak started and the use of face masks was common then, obviously not in relation to coronavirus; residents of other countries in South East Asia - like Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand - routinely wear face masks too. I think the number of confirmed cases in the UK has now risen to twenty (according to a couple of junior doctors to whom I was chatting this morning) so the risk remains minimal (they didn't seem overly concerned, anyway) but a good hygiene routine isn't the worst habit to have, regardless of whether it's as protection against this or anything else. Re: How to avoid the virus
Returning, for a moment, to being slightly more serious, part of the conversation I had this morning related to how infections can be passed around by money changing hands (which I'd never really considered previously but is logical) so perhaps using contactless payment is another step which could be taken.

Wash your hands with very warm water and soap for the time it takes for you to sing happy birthday twice. Also, stay at home.

Re: How to avoid the virus
Please be aware of misinformation campaigns waged by fake social media accounts regarding this or anything else. A lot of these stories are nonsense meant to spread fear and influence opinion.
http://https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wi...virus_outbreak It is actually good to fact check using a major search engine and find a number of different good sources of information. |
