In fairness to Andy Murray he did make the Australian tennis open final in 2010, best tim could do at wimbledon throughout his career was the semi-finals.

I'd like to think he could. I'm a fan. Realistically though I don't think he will.

He can but he probably won't.

He's not a dud, and maybe he can win it. I just wouldn't put money on it.

He CAN win it but it'll take hard work and some good fortune.

Was watching something earlier saying he should breeze past the first three rounds and then it'll get trickier but the early draw should be perfect for him.

I hope he can go one step further this year.

He's a bit unlucky in that he plays in the era of Federer and Nadal. I think he's close to Nadal in ability but not quite in sheer physical fitness and the winning mentality.

Federer is one of the greatest of all time but he must be close to retirement now. I think once he goes Murray will have more of a chance against 'the best of the rest'

Perhaps the question should be 'Can Andy Murray win a Grand Slam?'

I'm not sure if he is to be honest....

He's unlucky to be caught up in the Federer/Nadal generation but maybe one day they will both get injured during the same grand slam and Murray can seize his chance

I read somewhere that Nadal and Federer have won 19 out of the last 21 grand slams, something like that.

I like Murray, I'd like to see him win a grand slam so people stop thinking he's useless for only being one of the top five tennis players on the planet.

I still think it's funny how much people got outraged over that silly joke about the world cup

Not unless Rafa and the Fed are both injured at the same time. I think he would crumble against decent opposition in any grand slam final, he still has temprement issues and quite often comes across as a petulant arrogant cittle lunt on court.

Agree with this. I think he and other British tennis players past(like Mr Henman)get way too much stick for only being one of the best tennis players in the world rather then the best. Murray's made finals and Henman made many semi's, hardly abject failure. I remember when it was an achievement for a Brit to just get into the second round in the pre Henman years, then we just had the odd first week run of Jeremy Bates to hope for.

Anyway I think he probably won't win but I hope he does.

I'm a member of the single-handed backhand appreciation club so I'd like to see The Fed and Henien or another of their gracious ilk win ....

As for Murray...
He's quite a capable player... watchable too... all the effort and retrieving lost causes

Should he make it to the final and face Nadal even on his best day he won't be able to beat Nadal...
But if he faces Federer who is on a bad day and he's particularly on a good day he can win it.

As for the head to head with federer -- I don't think federer tries that much when its not grand slams so they could be deceptive. look at how he demolishes murray in straight sets when its grand slams.

He demolished Lopez this morning 6-1 6-1 6-2 in less than 90 minutes. Impressive stuff!

Either Melzer or Baghdatis in the 4th round. Melzer is currently 2-1 up in sets, just started the 4th set.

Next up...David Ferrer who just beat an injured Rafa in straight sets.

Murray has a great chance to get to the final now, he should be too good for Ferrer and he'll be thinking he has a real chance to win his first slam now that Rafa is out.

Only slight problem is Federer is looking back to his best...

Nadal going out as definitely boosted Murray's chances. He does have a game that can beat Federer, especially if Federer has an off day which he does more often than he ever used to. That said, psycology could play its part. Murray and Federer have been there before.

Federer out now, bit of a surprise that.

Andy should beat Ferrer on the fast court - Murray vs Djokovic could be a classic final. Too tight too call, the extra days rest might give Djokovic the edge, but Murray might not get a better chance with the top two already gone.

No ones forcing you to care? Obviously irks you that others do. Sport is great to watch.

Looks like Murray is through to the final here. 2-1 up in sets and a break up in the 4th looking comfortable and a class above Ferrer.

Put your money on Ferrer to win now

I can see this going to a 5th set, going to be a close match.

Murray has done incredibly well to get to the final, looks like he has picked up an injury the way he limped off court, it's a big ask for him to play another grueling match with just one day's rest: advantage Djokovic me thinks.

What a chance for Murray!! Not having Federer or Nadal to contend with really makes me think Murray can win this now.

Murray hasn't 'turned-up' to the final. He's not at his best.
