I'm guilty of this indulgence, but it is hard work along with a full-time job; and, yes, it is expensive! I'm doing an online masters in history. I'm really enjoying it - half way through the course now. I'm on a semester break at the moment.

I do online courses in languages, usually Duolingo (unless Duolingo doesn't have a course in the language I want to learn), which is free. It helps a little a when I'm travelling - I'm currently trying to learn Icelandic, although there are very few online courses.

New Skills Academy is good. I take courses on there, they heavily discount them (don't pay 200 for one!) I studied an SEN diploma on there whilst I was supply teaching. I started an autism one too but won't be completing it for a while now I'm working full-time and studying for my masters too.

I'd love to learn sign language, but not sure if that's available as an online course.

There are a lot of free online course sites if you don't mind them being unaccredited. Its also a good way to try out a few different things before committing to anything you have to pay for. I've done very short course on Future Learn, Alison and Udemy. Some haven't been very good so I guess its a trial and error thing.

I've never done an online course, but I would like to learn ancient Greek. Unfortunately, there are no classes anywhere near me. It's a good idea to have some little project or goal. Next year, I plan to read all of Shakespeare's plays in chronological order. I got the idea from my neighbor. When he was made redundant, he drew up a list of Dickens' novels and worked through them one by one. He had no money at all and bought them from charity shops, etc. .

I'm envious of you folk who can still seemingly function enough after 9hrs at work to do anything else that involves a brain

I've done a few free one's through Coursera. Just for interest.

I also got signed up to The British Gas Trust by the job centre and was able to do a Outlook course plus two really short interest courses - one on animals and one on photography. You have to be on benefits (I think) but they are free.

I've "attended" some courses on Udemy. It depends whether it's a course on a thing that you can actually do in that way or a a course about using an expensive software you should own/buy and so you would just see the screenshots but you couldn't actually use the software because it is too expensive for you.

I'd recommend Khan Academy to anyone. They don't run 'courses' per se, and it's very American, but it's great. It was founded on the belief that education should be freely accessible to anyone.

I did an MA years ago, but that wasn't online

I also love to be studying something. I've done loads of online courses: foreign languages, office skills course, software testing course, editing course...currently doing a "learn to draw" course

Don't know if it's any help to anyone but I have found some of the Great Courses material to be very helpful.

Not actually online courses but can be brought in DVD or downloadable format.

^ I have MANY of these. Expensive, but the ones I have seen have been excellent. You have to catch them when they're on sale, then they're usually seriously discounted.

That's exactly what I do, wait patiently for the discounts. I've made major savings by doing that and got loads of outstanding courses.

I quite recently brought their "Effective Research Methods for Any Project" course on 50% discount.
