Default Child being shouted at

I have a neighbour who has a child of primary school age. The neighbour shouts at the child every night calling them names, putting them down and making negative comments. I can only hear the child mumbling or complete silence. The shouting lasts from 10 minutes to an hour. It's been going on for months and escalated just before Christmas which is concerning. I'm thinking about reporting this. What would you do?

From my experience you have to weigh up how things would go between you as neighbours if you did, but we all have a sense of knowing when thing are not right with individuals and human instinct tells us we can't ignore situations that dont look good.

There are telephone numbers available across the UK for this type of thing, the difficulty is choosing the right place to take it to.
Good luck w what you decide.

I would call Social Services anonymously as from your description, this is emotional abuse at the very least.

Report it to social services, definitely, ...
Imagine that child is YOU, what would you want to be done, for that future you.
Terrible things can and do happen to young vulnerable children, but only when no one does anything to stop it,
You can do it anonymously, do it for that little child.

Report it. I had a similar situation with my neighbour, I reported it anonymously and I felt better for having done something about it. I have no idea if it made a difference or not. People like that have no business having kids. Nothing on this planet makes me angrier.

Yep, I agree with everyone else - report it!

Hollering cruel names at a young child and constantly putting them down is emotional abuse and it needs to stop before it damages the childs self esteem beyond repair. It makes me so sad to think this child may believe all these things this horrible adult is telling them

Thanks for all your responses. My neighbour's shouting has begun to sound out of control since before Christmas. So afraid that things will spiral out of control one night for the poor child. Other neighbours can also hear the shouting. I'm going to report them.

I know it's a scary prospect having to do this Pink*Lady but you could be saving this child from any escalating abuse.

Yeah, the best case scenario is the child will grow up to be on SAUK if you don't report it.
