I haven't been to many, I quite like Bath and also Wells.

Cardiff is nice and has the added interest of being used for a lot of locations in Dr Who and Torchwood.

I spent a few days in London once and I was surprised by how comfortable I felt there amongst all the hustle and bustle, it was almost as if I disappeared in to the crowd.

Edinburgh is elegant but a bit too anglicised and cosmopolitan, whereas Glasgow and Dundee might be rough round the edges but are the real deal.

Haven't seen much of the UK really, but I loved Edinburgh - really beautiful and lots to see. London is great too (wouldn't want to live there though) - I enjoy disappearing in the crowds like D1662 says. I've never really felt unsafe in London either, and it's easier to find a quiet spot than you might think.

Liverpool, Manchester, Bristol, Bath, York, Chester and Glasgow are all on my list to see. I would love to see them. I've been concentrating on exploring Europe the last few years though.

London is by far my favourite city, not just in the UK but in the world; of course, it was home for the first forty years of my life, but I always find it so exciting when I return as a tourist, it always seems to have something new to offer and nothing calms me as much as standing on any of the bridges and watching the Thames flow, especially at night.

Beyond London, each city seems to have its own personality; those like Oxford, Ely, Bath, York and Cambridge have their charms, Edinburgh is special to me because of the festival and Liverpool is a lovely place, but I have a special fondness for Manchester. Living where I do has also given me an increased appreciation of Sheffield, Nottingham and Derby.

To be honest, most cities have their own appeal to me, but if I were to pick , it would probably be Glasgow, Manchester or London.

Bristol is the only large city Ive not visited so cant comment on that

I’d be interested to see sociologist/economists do some in depth studies on Sparkhill/brook. It’s packed with independant local businesses serving their local communities, people know and get along with their neighbours… it’s basically the 1950s utopia that brexiters dream about (issues with crime, parking and bin collection not withstanding), it just happens to be a community built by muslims, but it would be interesting to figure out how they’re thriving and try and emulate it for a more diverse population rather than begrudge them for taking over.

I think York might be my favourite UK city, if I didn’t have commitments and could just easily walk into a job I’d probably try and move to the north east.
