Default Suggest strong spirit, ok taste please

Been using 'Ameretto' Italian almond flavour liqueur from lidl supermarket. I find the taste quite nice. I figured if buy a stronger drink I would save money in the long run because I wouldn't have to drink that much and it would last longer. I'm quite picky about the taste of alcohol, I hate cider and anything that resembes white wine. Also, hate taste of red wine.

Whats Southern Comfort like?

Or just whiskey, like any cheap whiskey?

Bought white rum before and hated that.

Also can't stand pure vodka, unless there's a way of mixing vodka with some sort of juice to make it taste okay but still very strong? If so, how stinky is this on the breath?

Cheers

Have you ever tried Absinthe? I guess it's a matter of personal opinion how nice it tastes, but when mixed with lemonade I found it quite acceptable. Very strong stuff though!

As for whisky, I like Jamesons or Jack Daniels.

Did it ever give you a hangover? I've been told it's supposed to be hangover-free, all I remember from when I had it was having weird burps the next day.

Vodka is the absolute worst for hangovers I find.

Good vodka is supposed to be one of the best things to drink to avoid hangovers because there are so few impurities. I've only ever drunk cheap stuff and it's given me rotten hangovers

I second Sambuca if you like Ameretto.

I fins with spirits that the cheap stuff dos really taste cheap, especially whiskey & Vodka. Mix some vodka with juice, coke etc to suit your taste as it will be strong, not as bad as other drinks on your breath as the mixer is the one you smell.

That 'Western Gold' bourbon that Lidl do, it's really nice. I buy it all the time, much cheaper than a bottle of Jack Daniel's.

I like whiskey myself and Sainsbury's own brand Irish Whiskey is a very palatable single malt, which surprised me as it's so cheap. Gin is fairly innocuous, especially with tonic, ice and lemon.

i can vouch for asda smartprice dark rum and also smartprice whisky. very cheap, and honestly quite palatable - i would say i have paid a lot more for something tasting a lot worse.

i like to drink whisky or rum with coke. if you make sure you buy proper coca cola or pepsi, a rum or whisky and coke is going to be just dandy.

incidentally, asda usually have an offer on either pepsi or coke at any given time. it may be on multipacks of cans or on one one form of bottle or other - have a look and save money.

something a bit more expensive, ound about 10/11 quid a bottle, is asda blended bourbon, kind of a southern comfort/jack daniels rip off. not as good as the original by any means, but at nearly half the price...this stuff gives you the vibe of the product it mimics, much better than say comparing "i can't believe its not butter" to butter. well worth a go, very enjoyable and at a very attractive price.

morgans spiced is another fave of mine but it aint cheap. again, i like morgans and coke.

Thanks for your responses Useful for me.

Sorry, I didn't explain why I put this thread where I did - I don't drink for pleasure. I don't just drink for the sake of drinking or to sit in the house pissed up. I only drink when I feel I have to, which is before the classes at university, it works very well for my nerves and shyness.

Also, thanks for the tips about when you mix it, thats good because I don't want people thinking 'God she stinks of X at 11am or whatever'.

I like southern comfort myself, though it's not cheap. I can't drink it neat, but with a bit of coke it's great.

i've used alcohol like this in the past, because it was the most easily available way of self-medicating i suppose. problem was, it ended up making me feel skanky, physically ill and even more isolated and removed from other people's everyday reality than ever before. i just felt really fraudulent. certainly not great for the self-esteem.

i hope you'll consider talking to your doctor about getting some help with this situation Becky. really can't see this coping strategy having good results in the longer term.

I dunno how to respond to that really...I don't think I'll ever see my doctor about this, in a way I see it as trivial I dunno.

i don't think it's trivial. if you're feeling that awful about facing other people that you're drinking in the mornings for instance, then that is absolutely something that a doctor is supposed to take seriously.
