Default List of best films of the 21st century - How many have you seen?

The Guardian has published its list of The 100 best films of the 21st century:

https://www.theguardian.com/film/201...e-21st-century

These lists are always contentious and subjective, for instance I considered 2 or 3 of their Top 20 choices to be pretty ordinary, but I was particularly struck by how few of these 'best' films I had seen.

How many of the Top 20 films have you seen?

1. There Will Be Blood (2007)
2. 12 Years A Slave (2013)
3. Boyhood (2014)
4. Under The Skin (2013)
5. In The Mood For Love (2000)
6. Hidden (2005)
7. Synecdoche, New York (2008)
8. Moonlight (2016)
9. Zama (2017)
10. Team America: World Police (2004)
11. Mulholland Drive (2001)
12. Son of Saul (2015)
13. Far From Heaven (2002)
14. White Material (2009)
15. Shoplifters (2018)
16. The Act of Killing (2012)
17. The Great Beauty (2013)
18. A Serious Man (2009)
19. Lincoln (2012)
20. Roma (2018)

I've only seen 6 of the top 20, so my score is 6/20.

From the full list published in The Guardian, my score is 12/50 for the top 50, and 26/100 for the full list.

How about you?

I've seen 19/20 of those Never seen Team America: World Police and I doubt I would now (I imagine it feels quite dated, and it doesn't look funny anyway).

Sad to see Call Me By Your Name at only 95 on that list of 100 though, that's probably my number one, or at least top three.

Edit: Just counted and I've seen 74/100. There are a couple I might watch one day, but also quite a few I'm not interested in and will likely never see (e.g. Ted, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Incredibles).

Christ, I haven't seen any of those listed above,..

will need to check out the full list though,

I presume this list is a bit "worthy" and PC-oriented?
I tend to find that a lot of trendy, 'poignant' or 'arty' films (that tend to make these lists) are usually really quite boring, pretentious, low-budget, subtitled, and supposedly hidden with metaphors and meanings, that,.. if you didn't "totally get", you're probably a philistine

give me Die-Hard any day

^ Why would you list "subtitled" in a list of apparent criticisms? Are only films that happen to be in English allowed to be good?

What do you mean by "PC-oriented"?

I've seen none of the top 20, and only one of the top 100(Gladiator) . I've only been to the cinema twice in the last 24 years to see Madagascar 2 with other service users who went to a Rethink drop in , and a ?horror/thriller with a befriender. The title eludes me. It was far from a cinematic masterpiece.

I haven't watched a film on tv for ages .

I've seen none of the top 20!
Out of the top 100 I've seen 13 of them. I loved "Bright Star", that was beautiful.

I don't like subtitled films. If I wanted to read a book while being distracted from watching a film, then I'd read a book. I like dubbed films though. I also don't like black and white films.

I will admit though, that I have quite bad taste in films compared to people that care about films. I mostly like romcoms and Disney.

^^ Oh Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri is a cracking film and not at all a hard going watch. For me it's a film that actually lived up to the hype. It has great dark comedy running through it. And Francis McDormand and Sam Rockwell are both brilliant in it

6 1/2 out of 100 and none of the top 20. I'm quite ashamed of that. And two of them are The Dark Knight and Anchorman so I don't think I'll be winning many film snob points for them, although I'd probably gain a fair few for the others I've seen.

The 1/2 is for Borat as I switched off halfway through - it was basically the same old jokes repeated from the series. And don't get me started on the amount of comic geniuses who would go and see the film and then spend the next 6 months endlessly repeating "that's nice!!" in a comedy accent. That catchphrase is probably the real reason for my dislike of it - it got old very quickly. Is it really the 23rd best film of this century?

I've just looked at the full list. I score 24/100. Better than I thought.

I'm glad to see Dogville in the list and We Need to Talk about Kevin.

I've seen one of the top 20 - and it's the only one I've seen from the full list; there's only another twelve of which I've even heard! Cinema really isn't my thing.

I don't like subtitled films, it distracts me from watching the actual film - plus, if the original language is one of which I have some understanding, I spend most of my time comparing the written translation with the original dialogue and therefore not being able to follow the plot. I also hate films which are heavy in special effects, I lose interest when it all seems to be sound effects and incidental music.

How many of the films are non-Hollywood/American?

I've seen 7/100 and none in the top 20. I haven't even heard of half of those films, and I watch a lot of films. I tend to stick to sci-fi, horror, anything superhero/zombie related.

What a joke of a list.
This is a Guardian list remember. The Guardianistas hate Lord of the Rings - it's "too white". I just knew 12 Years A Slave would be somewhere near the top. It's actually a really dull, second rate film - but it's about slavery, so The Guardian was always going to choose it.

Out of that 20, I've seen a big fat 0

Before I read it I expected it to be low, maybe not that low though

I don't really watch films for their message or to come away from them smarter/learning something

I like the action and the special effects and the just generally escaping from the day to day bore of work and sleep. Give me a decent Sci-Fi or Action movie any day

I've seen 5 of those. Some surprising choices there.

I saw Zama recently and it's an interesting film but it didn't strike me as the best of the decade by a long stretch. Or maybe I just didn't get it or know enough about South American history - probably that.

Some films I'd have included, with about 5 minutes thought so probably missed loads... 'Drive', 'Take Shelter', 'Children of Men', 'Never Let Me Go', 'Lust, Caution'... just checked and none of them even make the 100

Also the Before Sunrise trilogy, good to see one of those in there but should've been higher, and should've been all 3. Oh and yes, Lord of The Rings should've been in there.

Oh and In Bruges... I'm going to keep thinking of films now...

Saw 4 from what I remember of the top 20. Don't know why Roma gets such praise. Don't think it would get so much acclaim if it was not shot in black and white and a foreign language film.
Missing some major films and questionable choices that apparently Anchorman and Paddington 2 is better than Dark Knight.
I would have included the Prestige and Inception, Old Boy, Gone Girl, 7 Psychopaths and probably a bunch of others.
