Re: Small things that annoy you (3)
Olive oil supposedly softens the wax in readiness to remove (whatever the treatment). It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me neither but i've been instructed to do this for each occasion that i've had wax removal.

I heard someone on a podcast, a proper medical doctor no less, keep saying hammys instead of hamstrings.
Is that a thing? When did that happen? |

Re: Small things that annoy you (3)
Discussing anything financially with my mum. Well, actually, discussing anything where i'm asking her for a compromise. She's pissed me off quite a bit over this whole housing issue the past couple of years and she's yet again asking for me to lean on dad (or get a new job, lol, yeah thanks!). She could have helped me from the off but decided to use her whole inheritance toward her new home. Of course she couldn't look at properties 20-25k lower, that was out of the question, she wanted what she wanted and bollocks to anyone else!
I've discussed this a little with my brother and we both agreed that she's going to be really difficult with age. |

I don't think cafe nero is fancy, to do that in any public space/cafe/coffee shop is pretty grim.

It's not fancy but it's about 100x fancier than Costa - or at least the people that go to them

Once I rang environmental health because I went to a big chain coffee shop and it was filthy and swarming with flies! They had bags of rubbish on the floor. I don't understand how people were queuing up and willing to consume food or drink in there! The whole shopping centre had a bit of a fly problem.

Surely Starbucks is higher class than Costa?
Around here Costa is for rough and ready types that read the Sun and still smoke. Nero is for middle class mums and their wild children. Starbucks is for laptop workers, foreign students and men who don't drink and use it as a pub in the evenings. |

Re: Small things that annoy you (3)
I don't think our Whetherspoons opens until 9am so I guess they go for a quick coffee and a fag before it opens.
I always laugh at the people who order toast in Costa. I'm know I'm a snob but I can't help it when I see them buttering and jamming their massive slices of toast. I'm not sure why I find it funny. I can't decide if they order it because they think it's a treat to have toast as a meal out, or they're too suspicious of the croissants and other foreign muck so they just stick with toast? They should do beans on toast in there, it would go down a treat. |

Re: Small things that annoy you (3)
^^ I actually have zero Costa points because I never go in there, or any of the other coffee shops come to that. I much prefer a nice little teashop where I can sip my Earl Grey from a dainty china cup with a saucer and treat myself to an awfully yummy Victoria sponge slice

Re: Small things that annoy you (3)
I mean literal toast. Like a piece of hot bread! Not a toasty.
I have smashed avo on sourdough actually, with a couple of poached eggs. Don't get me wrong, I love a proper fry up, although without the meat these days. But toast, on its own? That's a step too far! |

Re: Small things that annoy you (3)
Maybe. Just seems like a small minded lack of imagination to order toast in a cafe. Even if it is Mother's Pride.

Haha. Maybe be brave and try a croissant or a panini next time. Don't be scared by the foreign sounding names. They're mostly harmless and largely bread-based.

Re: Small things that annoy you (3)
I've probably mentioned this one before, but one thing which does make my toes curl is the over-use of the word 'image' over the likes of 'picture', 'photo', 'video clip' e.t.c... It seems like the latter examples no longer exists. Maybe it's just me, but 'image' seems to be the generic word to cover anything recorded or printed these days.
Speaking of Costa, is anyone else finding the updated app a bit more of a 'faff' to use than the previous version? I've got my head about the business of collecting beans rather than points (although I did prefer the former), but there now seems to be an extra step required in order to get the QR code up in order for them to scan it if you want to reclaim the points/beans. |

Same goes for any other app that needs scanning, just screenshot and it's always there in a click with no data connection needed. The amount of times people in the queue wait till the last minute to fire up their app, and then start pressing buttons to find a qr code, they either have no signal or they don't know how to bring it up. Grr! As a part time cashier in my student days I bless anyone who has their cards, money, phone ready to go instantly. |

Re: Small things that annoy you (3)
^^ what make of phone do you have? If Apple, you can put the QR code in your wallet, so when you double tap the Home Screen you can use the QR code.
I'm guessing there will be a similar thing with Android? Quote:
