Lol.

So what was the verdict? Good, bad or indifferent?

I don't know if I'm looking forward to it or not, but I'm off shortly for my first trip of the year; there are 17 going, so I might just slope off alone a fair bit (for once, I'm not the organiser, so I have more freedom). There are two other (longer) trips in quick succession after I get back, so I'm worried this may be the start of human contact overload.

If nothing else, it'll reduce my heating bills!

I'm heading off to my usual place in Devon for a long weekend at the end of April.

I seriously cannot wait.

It's one place where I feel as though I 'come alive' and I can just be myself. Rekindle some happy childhood memories e.t.c...

A nice part of the country to visit.

Yes I will be hiking

Yes Bakewell and Eyam look nice, so does Castleton . I want to walk up to Mam tor and also try and walk Kinder scout and Derwent Edge. Hoping for good weather.

I hiked Mam Tor and Kinder Scout last year actually.

Mam Tor is an easy walk up from Castleton (via Winnats Pass or Cavedale). Kinder Scout, is longer but still fairly easy walk , from Edale via The Pennine Way and Jacobs Ladder. However finding the summit itself can be difficult even in clear weather and its easy to get lost in poor visibility.

Another, good walk is from Bakewell to Chatsworth House (Via the village of Rowsley and the River Derwent).

Just a few ideas for walkies though.....

Yep, looks like that route misses out Jacobs Ladder. I did the walk from Edale Station after arriving on the train from Sheffield (where Id been staying). Could be wrong, but I think that is the start point for the Pennine Way too.

Bleaklow Head is another hill in the area that you could do. Its one Ime hoping to do the next time Ime down in that part of the country. I know it can be done from Glossop, but there are other routes as well.

Going to Carcassonne in March. It looks like a fairytale medieval castle. I can just imagine the Frenchmen catapulting a giant wooden rabbit over the ramparts (that was real, right?)

^ I read a novel that was set there and became a bit obsessed with the place for a while. You always seem to end up going to the places I want to visit. I bet you do it on purpose :P

^^^ That looks lovely, I wish I'd known about that when I was last in that area! I may be driving to Spain later in the year (accompanying someone else to share the driving) and if I do, I'll make sure that we stop there en route. Thanks for posting that, anxiouslondoner.

Is it the St Bees to Robin Hoods Bay Path ?

Thats a fair old hike, must be getting on for 200 odd miles. How many days will that take you?
