I love Jurgen - his lamp cake was incredible! Think him and Giuseppe are my fav so far. Hope Freya does well too. Seems like a really good line up this year. Still wish Sandi Toksvig hadn't left though, I loved her and Noel's partnership.

^ they are genuinely really close friends! They supported each other one another through their heart treatments. This is real, real friendship and love.

Was looking forward to watching a new episode of QI this evening - but it has John Barrowman in it which is a bit wierd considering what has been revealed about him. Don’t think I will watch it now

I've been listening to Bob's audiobook autobiography and it comes across that they are definitely real friends, they just are friends by being shitty to each other lol

He quotes at one point where Bob was just recovering from major heart surgery and they insulted each other with how bad they looked "glass blowers arsehole" lol

It's a bizarre friendship but you can hear how much Bob appreciates Paul for helping out of his post surgery rut.

I've never interpreted them as not liking each other, they just sometimes tease each other a little the way close friends sometimes do (and probably comedians might do to an even greater extent). They've been friends for decades.

I've been watching Chelsea Flower Show this week too. I was never really into gardening before I got my own little garden a few years ago and filling it with things you've grown yourself and watching the bees pay a visit did open my eyes. It also appeals to my artistic side when it comes to colour choices etc.

Just finished Nine Perfect Strangers.

An episode was released each week. At first I was curious to see how it would go and each week I would find myself getting increasingly distracted by other thoughts, so at the start of each episode when they showed the recap I would see things that I didn't remember seeing previously. I put that down to anxiety being parasitic in my brain. Anyway, I gave the final episode my almost-full attention and it was a sloppy ending to and okay-ish series.

I'm being made to watch the West Wing.

I know it's a 'classic' and the sort of thing that would usually interest me, but I'm really struggling with:

1) the sentimentality and regular go' bless 'Merica/POTUS moments
2) the writerly dialogue that puts everyone in constant semantic volleys with one another (good in pure comedy, irritating in something that's meant to be more realistic)
3) the lack of strong overarching narrative compelling me to watch more
4) the cliched resort to violent jeopardy at the end of the first series in place of a strong overarching narrative to try to compel me to watch more
5) the backdrops so often looking so obviously like backdrops
6) the Josh Lyman and Donna thing

Maybe I'm being too critical, but when something's 'so good'... There are some good lines in though, I'll concede. 'It's nice when we can do something for prostitutes once in a while, isn't it?'

I never watched the West Wing. I saw a few bits of it but always thought it looked too earnest, smug, and pleased with itself.

That was just a very quick judgement so I could be wrong.

^ It does give quite a good insight into how aspects of American politics work. Ish.

I'd recommend Veep first though. Same setting - far more entertaining.

Meh. It looked good and there was some intrigue, but it's only an 'okay' rating for me. I think i just liked the idea of the isolated island community and how it looked, etc, but it's all a bit phoney and naff. I'll finish it because, hopefully, the whole island gets washed away in a tsunami and there won't be chance to create a follow-up series (even though it says it's a 'limited series').

Squid Game. I'm glad it automatically plays in Korean with English subtitles. A few other German and Spanish Netflix titles I've watched have been automatically playing the dubbed version. I never understand why people would choose to watch a dubbed version (apart from obvious reasons - visual impairment, reading difficulties etc.) I saw them watching the dubbed version on Gogglebox (presumably because they can continue playing it whilst they cut to the viewers discussing the programme) and it had a completely different feel to it and it loses the actors' performances.

^ I didn't know there was an option to be honest, the dubbed version just played automatically for me.
