^ Well, I didn't feel that this was the place to elaborate on what I said in the early hours of this morning but since this has been heading in that direction (and I'm not sure where I should post it), this is what I would say:

I have always been convinced, not just from my own experience, but also that of professionals (including the legendary Ajax Amsterdam, who lest we forget is a qualified and practising therapist) and from those with whom I have talked, that social anxiety (as distinct from social anxiety disorder) is a necessary part of the human psyche; indeed, as I have moved towards "recovery" (I hate that word, but I'm using it as shorthand), I have taken great comfort in knowing that those who appear anxiety-free actually have just found ways to deal with it (notwithstanding that those who were normally socialised in younger life have done so naturally and are only aware of such anxieties in extremis, possibly when public speaking or talking other languages, for instance). In recent times, I have taken control of my anxiety to the extent that I can now cope with just about any situation and in good faith, because of the sincerity of my beliefs, I have - on the understanding that I am being helpful - advised others that it is unrealistic to expect social anxiety to vanish and to accept its presence but strive to reach a point where it is no longer prohibitive or restrictive.

I would go even further to say that an absence of any social anxiety whatsoever is potentially dangerous (as it is what prevents us from putting ourselves into adverse situations) and could even indicate sociopathy. However, last night I learned that I was wrong and that not just one but two people have managed to eradicate social anxiety completely; in this context, I have been giving erroneous advice for five years (well, four at least). I have been encouraging people to limit themselves when, evidence suggests, there is indeed no limit. Now, personally, I am unable to reconcile a complete absence of social anxiety with safety, as I still believe that there are some strangers who should be avoided and that that is the function which that part of our being uses to protect us and it is for that reason that I owe everyone a massive apology for misleading you all and is also why I can no longer offer advice. My own limitations are a disservice to everyone here.

Now, does anybody genuinely need a mod's attention, because that's what this thread is for. Also, I owe everyone another apology for my overreaction - a stressful day (signal failure at Tamworth nearly caused me to miss my flight) and fatigue brought out the autist in me!

^ This is just my opinion but I also remember the legendary Ajax Amsterdam saying the same thing about social anxiety as you have here and I have always been inclined to agree with that view. Maybe some people do feel that they don't experience any social anxiety at all anymore (maybe they would describe what they do experience using a different word like awareness or intuition) but I think many people here would also say that they will always feel some level of social anxiety.

On this basis I would say that your advice has been and will continue to be useful. But ofcourse whether you continue to post is your decision.

Perhaps the discussion of this will continue in the original thread and people will offer more explanation for their particular point of view.

Maybe a new thread / poll on whether or not it's possible to eradicate it completely? I worry that Raks might think I'm picking a fight here, but I'm not. I am genuinely pleased that he and his friend have come so far and I need to understand more before I can offer the best advice.

Question Re: Requests for moderators' attention

Can I have any threads I've started in the sa room or relationships room deleted please. Is that allowed? As they're all ridiculous, histrionic, self-absorbed nonsense I doubt many other people would get much out of them?

^ I think you're wrong, Sunrise - a lot of people can relate to your posts and threads. If they are "self-absorbed" or "histrionic" in any way, that's because we all feel that way sometimes. Personally, I've never read anything from you which didn't engender respect or empathy, even if my attempts to help you have been ill-judged.

I have done this for you, leaving two threads which were not posted in these sections

I know that I'm a pain in the proverbial, but can the following thread titles:
http://www.social-anxiety-community....ad.php?t=93065
http://www.social-anxiety-community....ad.php?t=93066
be amended to included to include the word "cancelled", please?

Thank you to whoever does this, I do appreciate it and hope I won't have to ask this again in the future.

May I have a permanent ban, please?

Thank you, everyone, for everything which this site has given me over the past seven-and-a-half, almost eight, years; it's thanks to SAUK that my life has changed and I hope that, in turn, I've been able to help some people in some small way. I am so sorry that I have to leave, however it's now been made clear that there is no alternative.

Goodbye, everyone - live your best lives.

^GI, I really hope you change your mind and stay. I can't understand why anyone on this forum is trying to force you to leave (if that's what you mean). The very idea seems outrageous to me! I always enjoy your excellent posts and will very much miss your presence if you do leave. Hopefully you'll reconsider. Whatever you finally decide to do though, I wish you all the very best. Stay strong and hopefully you can soon get back to your travels and concerts when Covid is finally brought under control.

^^ Sorry to hear that you want to leave! If anyone is forcing you to, they should be the one to be banned, not you!
If you really have to go, all the best for the future.

^ & ^^ Thank you both for your kind words; before there's any misconception, I should say that no member of this forum is forcing me to leave, it's someone who isn't a member but using the forum to spy on me (she accesses the forum via Tapatalk, but in any case it isn't a secure site). Most recently, she saw my post about the Flickr collection and created a Flickr account so that she could leave comments there, as I've blocked other forms of communication. I just don't feel comfortable posting, knowing that someone is monitoring my life through what I write.

@Marco, a little thing like a pandemic won't stop me travelling, although it is limiting where I can go (most of the places deemed "safe" by the FCDO aren't admitting UK nationals); greetings from the Bulgarian Black Sea coast!

If you would also like your posts deleted (sorry it's not clear from your post), or if you would like to come back/lift your ban at any time then feel free to email

I do use this app, you can edit the post but I don't think you can delete it using the app. You would need to log on to the forum website and delete it there.

I'm no expert.
