Default Some Positive things about being over 50

Some of the discussions on here got me thinking
There are some positives about getting older, its not all bad news.
Please add to the list, but only postives please.
  • People begin to see you for the person you are and not what you look like

I'm not 50 yet, but one good thing about being over 40 means that you generally become much more invisible in a Society that seems to worship youthfulness (is that the right word?) From an SA perspective that's a very good thing

Yes I had posted something along those lines but it disappeared before I could submit. There are still the various personalities in the workplace to contend with but it is more acceptable at this age to be openly disinterested in socialising, sex or popular culture. I'm boring and I know it and I don't have to pretend otherwise.

Exactly! I hated being young because everyone seemed to keep wanting to know why I wasn't seeing the world/embarking on a great career/getting plastered with tonnes of mates. Now I've finally reached the age where 'pottering about' is fairly acceptable and noone tries to tell me what to do with my life anymore. Sometimes this is such a relief that I even feel a bit euphoric- I think I like almost everything about middle age (apart from the 'being closer to death' bit). I remember when I was a teenager I used to envy the old codgers who got to potter in their outhouses and sit on park benches with their cronies muttering about whatever they wanted to mutter about. Now I am one and it's quite good!

Oooh I can really relate to this thread. Making excuses not to have to go out on the razzle night after night with people I really didn't want to and making excuses about plans with mates I never had! Being an old middle aged fart is great! I can listen to my Smiths CDs with a drink in hand in the comfort of my own lonely miserable home, safe in the knowledge that nothing at all is desired or expected of me! Peace at last!!!
