boring job
i was just thinking, how would you feel if you had a boring 'dead end' job? SA wise , i mean say in a factory or somewhere . You'd kinda be doing the same thing everyday ,so you'd know what to do ( you wouldnt have to ask someone all the time 'what am i doing today ' or 'what am i doing now?' Would it be good for SA? I think id feel comfortable SA wise. Even tho it would be boring at least you'd 'get through ' the day pretty easy?
Ive had a few factory jobs in the past and it was pretty stress free, just sat down ,listening to the radio and did the relitivly easy work - easy life? Think of all these ppl in high demanding social jobs, negotiating with costomers everyday- i couldnt do it. maybe having a boring job isnt so bad- the way i see it, the bills get paid and your earning a living. im not much of a ambitious person ( as you can see!) i guess my job is in between kinda. im doing the same thing ,but i deliver to different places. I think it would be nice to just sit down some days and do something boring. Not sure if im making sence- just a thought really. (Emote: smash3) |

Re: boring job
Sometimes I like the boring days at work , just to give the brain a rest, but I think I need a certain amount of stress to keep me feeling alive and happy, I love my job, everything is always different, I'd die of bordom otherwise.
As for the SA element I believe SA would be worse if I didn't challenge it, I'd easily go far far into myself if I didn't have to push myself to speak for the sake of my patients [1 edits; Last edit by IRIS at 17:32:08 Fri Jun 24 2005] |

Re: boring job
I agree. You need to have a balance between boring and being run off your feet. But then some people seem to thrive on stress! I'm lucky in that my job has taken me to different parts of the UK - Wales, Scotland, SE England - and overseas - the Falklands. Also, I have company when I work and some contact with customers - in person and on the phone. I guess that I'm lucky in that I have a job that doesn't over-stretch me and I get paid quite well. Hurrah! As an aside, as a condition which is socially disabling (SA, I mean!), I'm probably living in the most isolated part of the UK - NE Scotland! It's very beautiful here - beach and forest etc - but there's not that much to do! Alas, my job brought me here so I'll have to stay for the time being. If anyone would like to contact me that would be great (I can supply an email address).
PS I love the blog magika! You have an "individual" writing style which is great fun. Keep it up! |

Re: boring job
Magika,
As with the boring job thing, where you live needs to be a mix of quiet and not too hectic with the option of having things to do - coffee shops, good cinemas, art galleries and museums etc. I would have thought that Bristol would have lots to offer? Having said that, I'm sure that there are lots of people who don't have the option to move - career, kids etc - and have to make do with where they are. I was lucky enough to live in Edinburgh from 1988-90 and would love to move back there but it's just so expensive now! I've also lived in Bracknell (why??) for 8 months which was horrible (lots of concrete etc) and had the good fortune to spend 8 months in the Falklands (that's the opposite extreme! - v.quiet and v.v.islolated). One thing is for sure, I would never go back to the south of the UK. I think I would rather move abroad. As for here, it was beautiful today - short run in the forest and a quick rest on the beach (warm sunshine, great views and a wonderful clarity of light). However, if you're not a big drinker then forget it! There's quite a lot that's lacking here and a dearth of interesting people!! So, I think you're doing OK - it could be a lot worse! PS I apologise if this has gone off-thread. I don't usually contribute to discussion boards... |

Re: boring job
I agree about the south of the UK, it's dead dull - most of the people seem to be self-minded rich family folk (although obviously there are exceptions) and there is no community spirit - meeting like-minded people is nigh on impossible - but I digress.
Going back on topic, I did a boring job a couple of years ago for a few weeks, just sticking labels on backup tapes. I really don't mind it at all although I'd probably get fed up with it if I did it all the time. Doing something non-stressful like that is great for SA and I also found it gave me the opportunity to daydream as once I got used to the task, I could do it like a robot on autopilot without having to think about it! |
