Default "delete" key mystery

periodically my "delete" key stops working, and i have to use backspace instead. i get the impression it's something to do with settings rather than the key being faulty. so wtf is it about? anyone know?

I've never seen 'Intermittently disable delete key to mess with users mind' settings. New keyboard methinks.

You mean to say the mighty cloaca is foiled by a mere Delete key? I must say, I'm rather disappointed.

(a new keyboard is in order)

so, my petulant little hissy fit aside, i can think of reasons why certain settings might affect the delete key. in some instances, using the delete could be a VERY serious typo

the thing is, it doesn't behave in an intermittent fashion. its not like you press it over and over again, and get different results, as if it was a fault. its more like "oh its not working this evening" and "oh, its started working again this morning" as if it gets switched on and off. you got me?

Yes you have got me. I have no idea what that could be. Goes into standard tech questions mode: 1. When it's not working have you switched the computer on? 2. Have you checked for viruses lately?

The solution is a simple one. Delete the delete key and all of your problems shall be solved.

i fixed it!

i have turned everything in my room into a white two-dimensional box with a grey dotted line around it and it's name inside. i use these symbolic representations as a target for my infallible telepathy. i've been meaning to get around to this for ages actually

I get the very same problem. Back space stops working intermittently, but delete works fine.
