Re: What book(s) are you reading at the moment?
Just started reading Against the Market by David McNally this morning. Not got that far through it but it seems pretty interesting so far. Managed to get through a few books over the past couple of weeks - Divided Societies by Ralph Miliband, Doctrine and Ethos in the Labour Party by Henry Drucker (a concise and informative overview of pre-1979 Labour ideology) and The Politics of New Labour by Andy Pearmain. Probably not the most exciting selection if you're not a politics nerd, to be fair, but still.

Just re-reading John Gray's False Dawn at the moment. It's amazing how accurate that book turned to be - it pretty much anticipated the current global crisis ten years before it happened. There are a few shortcomings (mainly in Gray's understanding of Marxism, which seems to be lacking in some areas) but it's still a very good book.

Only a little way through this so far, but enjoying the quirky, black Scandinavian humour. |

Re: What book(s) are you reading at the moment?
Great book, this. Picks apart the self-aggrandising claims of Thatcherite ideologues - it should be required reading for Thatcher worshippers everywhere. Gilmour himself was a cabinet minister for the first couple of years under the first Thatcher government, but his tendency to write books and make speeches slagging off its economic record eventually got him the sack. |
