^ I really don't think they know what they're doing! Or atleast they're not trained about how things are meant to go, I'm not sure whether that's deliberate so that anyone who can possibly be persuaded to go on to UC will be.

There's a vegan pizza takeaway near me just shown up on Just Eat. I'm not vegan but I have to say it's caught my interest.

Does anyone know of any "behind the scenes" kind of volunteering? There must be something that doesn't involve dealing with the general public

^ You can volunteer in charity shops but choose to only work in the back room sorting stock, labelling things etc rather than working in the shop or on the till with the public. I know of people who have volunteered doing admin type work which was just in an office and not with the public and I assume volunteering for an animal rescue centre may not involve working with the public if you're just helping with the care of the animals.

Admin work would be good Ideally it'd be an IT role but I never see anything like that advertised.

The rise in idiocy. I live in a fairly safe district (relatively) but the new crop of young lads coming up have no shame. So far this week a mass brawl in Sainsburys car park in the middle of the day between the car washers (who were attacked) and a large group of lads. A mass brawl in the town centre and now a group of lads beating the shit out of a boy and throwing bricks at him outside a One Stop shop. I never thought I'd see such things here.
Might sound tame compared to places like London but shows the shift in youth culture that seems to be going on. Far to many of them (IMO) are openly and unashamedly on a daily basis smoking strong weed and popping pills and the police just turn a blind eye. There's no strong older generation type community to pull them into line either like in the past.

^ lol Yeah. I must be getting old!

Still I've lived in the area for 20 odd years and it was never like that before. The drug issue too, ppl of course took drugs recreationally but they weren't so blatant and prolific with it.

The left^ being so focused on human rights and anti punishment is the issue in my opinion. "non-custodial sentences work better" mmmm hmmm, I can really see it

These kids are lucky I'm not in charge, they would learn exactly what responsibility is.

Tell me about it

I've ranted on before (since deleted) about the knife culture that is starting to take a hold where I live and of the anxiety I feel every time my teen goes out. Just a year or so ago the crime rate was relatively low in the suburbs outside of the Cities and I'd think nothing of going for a walk on my own mid evening after dark. But that's all changed now. Since new housing estates are popping up all over the place and the area is becoming increasingly congested with people and traffic the rate of muggings, car theft, house burglaries and now gang knife crime has shot up alarmingly. I'm not so old to say 'when I was young we didn't even have to lock our doors' but I honestly can't believe how bad things have got

All I know is that when there was a stronger Police presence on the Streets the place was a lot safer. Whoever thought taking resources away from the Police wouldn't have a devastating effect on safety within communities must have needed their head examining

@ AireleeBray I hope your birthday (whenever it may be!) will be heaps happier than you could ever imagine

I wish I had a purpose in life or could feel useful even in some small way. At the moment I feel that I'd be more useful donating my body parts (heart, lungs, kidneys..) to very poorly people who could make good use of them than them being wasted on me

I desperately need a hair cut!
It would be nice to have it done properly for a change but that means going to a barbers and deciding what style I would like and then having to make small talk with a stranger uhh.

^^ I agree with Freyja, you can do it D1662!

The men in my family often go to those Turkish Barbers that are springing up all over the place now. The good thing about these are that the Barbers are obviously Turkish guys who are not so fluent in English and so rarely attempt to converse a great deal apart from asking you how much hair you want cut off and what kind of style, then just get on with it. Consequently the ordeal is over pretty quickly
On occasions I've really wished I could use them

In the past I've found that some of the stylists in the unisex hairdressers can be quite chatty. They'd always be some ultra friendly girl who would chatter away asking questions like 'Going anywhere nice for your holiday this year blah, blah, blah...' and I'd be thinking 'Just hurry up and get on with it pleassse so I can get the hell out of here!'

Thinking I hope I actually get some sleep tonight, although I don't hold out much hope

@Freyja and @Consolida thank you both for the words of encouragement

I have set it as my challenge for tomorrow morning, having never actually been to a barbers/salon before I don't really know what to expect, I know that I'm fed up of my perpetual boring hair but know nothing about hairstyles

What are ankle cuffs with a hook on, allowing you to hang upside down from a bar like a bat called?
