Stopping me from moving forward
I find I have this annoying weird habit that stops me from feeling positive and moving forward and I don't know why it happens.
If I'm trying really hard to be positive and go in the right direction. A voice in the back of my mind pops up and reminds me if something negative and why I can't do it or shouldn't move forward. Or I think what if what if this happens? Eg I develop a health condition or something horrible happens. I wouldn't be able to deal with it and therefore no longer feel like trying anymore. And then I feel back to square 1. It's really beginning to annoying me. It's like my subconscious is refusing to allow me to be who I want to be and be positive. It's almost like a fear of achieving something amazing, but then something destroying it and taking it all away which scares me. Does anyone else get this? And if so anyone know how to overcome this? It's doing my head in |

Re: Stopping me from moving forward
^ Ive only read some notes from the book (Notes of a philosopher). It doesnt really grab me or make me want to purchase it.
I keep hearing about Eckart Tolle... Im not sure I can be bothered reading yet another selfhelp book though. Not unless I know its a great read and will help me in some way. |

We're all receptive to different concepts I suppose, he's been pretty much life changing for me personally though. I was fairly jaded by self help books myself.

Re: Stopping me from moving forward
^ Tell me about it...Ive listened to that many audios and read so many book in this field. Its easy to fall into the trap of using them as a quick feel good boost. Like junk food. I feel like ive got a handle on it now though. Proactivity/massive Action is where its at. Their has to be a balance between reading and doing.
Though i did 'mindfully' do the dishes today Struggling to get into meditation though. |

Re: Stopping me from moving forward
I get this all the time. It really throws me. It happens so quick and is really unnerving.Sometimes I think it is just part of the built up fear response we have...almost like a protection thing where our mind reminds us of the time where something went wrong, like to warn you to not do it again. But it is the wrong response and not helpfull when you are trying to make progress.
I have the same problem with a shop I dislike going into, everytime I try to attempt to rethink my way around it, so I can enter the shop in a more positive mindframe and perhaps have a better experience then before...i get negative flashbacks of the last time i was there and how bad it went. And i think why????? im trying to make progress here and my brain is doing the opposite. And then i dont go. I think CBT can really help, but you have to stick at it all the time to see changes. Also mindfulllness as mentioned teachs you that you cannot stop those random thoughts, but teaches you how to allow them to be there and not get so worked up over them |
