I decided not to have a full roast today because I'm not keen on chicken with gravy, so I just had a load of roast, chicken and slaw.

Small cut, crunchy roasts cooked in some of the chicken fat are amazing.

Roast potatoes are my number one choice.

Mash would probably be my last choice.

Always find mash too stodgy and get's boring after a while and becomes a chore to scoff.

I can est roasts like sweets though.

^ You're bang on the money with mash.

Not sure about the chicken and gravy remark.. that's really thrown me.

^^ Gravy no matter what where a roast is concerned.

How and when did you come to this decision about chicken and gravy?

Roast potatoes or jacket potatoes with cheese and beans.

Mashed potatoes make me feel sick. The texture is weird.

I like 'em all I suppose. Though I hate potato in soup or Cornish pasty type things. Get a Bridie instead.
Oh and 'old' boiled potato's I still remember my mother serving up floury boiled potato's with things like mince and tatties as a kid. 'orrible.
Boiled new potatoes tho
I do like mash though esp on a cold or wintry day. As long as there really creamy (or cheesy or both). Great comfort food with pie for instance.

Fondant
Boiled (new potatoes)
Baked

Mash is like something you'd have to live on if you had no teeth. It's miserable slop.

That's why it's superior. You don't even have to have teeth to enjoy its goodness.

Properly done mash isn't 'a slop', it should still have texture, flavour and, IM personal O, pieces of skin and herbs.

I just about tolerate mash. Don't make it with olive oil, or add mint or mix with tomatoes, it's unbearable. There's never been a time when I have voluntarily choosen mashed potato as a thing to eat.

Nothing wrong with frozen roasts.

You gotta hit em with meat juices and some fat, and cook em long enough so they become really crunchy and chewy.

Aunt Bessies, Lidls, Sainsburys, Aldi's, Icelands are all good.

When I was researching lightweight dehydrated and freeze dried camping grub not long back I was shocked at how many ate instant mash potato, the worst potatoes of all time!

It's the peeling of them that puts me off having them too much. I'm ham fisted with a peeler , so it takes me ages and I end up with an achy hand. I rarely buy potatoes as the supermarkets insist on selling 2/5 lbs bags.
