Re: What do people get out of this website?
It proves that I'm not the only person experiencing life like this.

Re: What do people get out of this website?
I have no expectations of posting here. I like the people, I still get to learn a few things, I like sharing my experiences and offer a few thoughts along the way too. Suppose I just enjoy the place, or I'd not bother with it. It was also kind to me when I was in a far darker place than I am today, so it's nice to try to give something back if I can.

Re: What do people get out of this website?
I think for me, it's learning that I'm not alone in the way I feel, and to try to inspire others to overcome their own issues. I really believe it's possible to function a lot better despite having a history of SA and other mental health issues.

Re: What do people get out of this website?
Its somewhere to come when you feel that no one else will understand. There's no fear of judgement here. If someone has an opposing viewpoint they will generally express it in a sensitive and considerate way which can help to balance things.

Re: What do people get out of this website?
I originally came here many many moons ago in the hope of feeling less alone by meeting other people who suffered with the same 'thing' as me and also with the ultimate goal of confronting my fears and totally beating SA.
However, fast forward 16 years and I've finally come to accept that I'll never be free of SA because I've had it for the majority of my life now. And, if I'm entirely honest, I'm no longer prepared to put myself through hell in the vain attempt that I might rid myself of this disorder when I may not have that many years ahead of me anyway (I'm not that ancient but I am middle aged and extremely world weary ) So, the only reason I come here now is that it's something to do when I'm bored plus I genuinely believe that a lot of the posters who pass through here are some of the loveliest people you could ever wish to know. Also, it's the one place I can express what i'm thinking or feeling and be guaranteed that there will be others who totally emphasise. It will be a sad day if and when SAUK disappears because if it wasn't for this place I would never have met certain individuals who have played a massive and important part in my life. |

Re: What do people get out of this website?
I know it's a bit of a cliché, but you generally get out what you put in. Using it positively and constructively etc. Don't ever compare yourself, don't dwell on stuff, keep supporting others but most importantly get out there and live your life.
Many people don't really want to change, or at least aren't ready to, because change is extremely challenging and difficult. I even had a therapist say this to me once after several years, which was a shock and made me feel quite ill, and also angry, but it also made me dig that little bit deeper. So even though I still struggle a lot, I definitely feel I have grown, and these boards have absolutely helped me feel I am not alone during the darkest times. |

Nothing. SA people alienate me just like non-SA people.

Re: What do people get out of this website?
I don't know
I do know when it wasn't up this morning I was even more bored than usual I suppose I use it as a time waster and it "helps" to be around folk with similiar problems instead of feeling like a complete outcast. (Which I manage to do enough at work) I did have some sort of relationship that started on here many years ago (and ended many years ago) .so I guess there was that. I also have met a good friend which started here too..unfortunately the distance means meeting up isnt that frequent. If I could make a few more friends that would be good...preferably someone on my side of the country..It's unlikely though, theres not many folk round here near me and I'm being a bit shit with responding/staying in touch with people..I wouldnt be my friend so I don't really expect anyone else to. |

Re: What do people get out of this website?
I met my boyfriend through this site and my current group of friends. I would love to make more friends as well. Key thing is to go to meetups and actually meet people in my opinion. Whereabouts in london do you live?
