Default Has anyone read Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella?

Here's my review:
Quote:
YA books are usually hard for me to critique, because they're not aimed at me. But this book is special; it talks to me as a mature adult, even though the narrator is a teenager.

Audrey suffers from a sort of social anxiety that's not like mine. In one sense, it's much worse. She hides away behind dark glasses and has panic attacks. But her social anxiety will pass. She's young - not a fully-formed adult - and she's getting the right help.

I even enjoyed the humour in this novel, especially in the way Audrey views the adults in her life. We have a lot to learn from books like this about our relationships with teenagers, but Audrey also learns that adults have valid reasons for behaving as they do.

Highly recommended.
Warning: Some readers didn't like the combination of mental illness and humour. Some didn't like the combination of mental illness and romance. Some didn't like the mother and thought her worry about her son's addiction to computer games was OTT.

I thought it worked well and would love to hear what you thought.

Sounds like a good read! Her book jackets look like great fun, will have to look into reading them.

Having now finished it I’d give it a 5.987 out of 10 for its depiction of the SA experience, something I don’t believe the author has any personal experience of so a decent stab at it. As for the humour, I loved it and am surprised some people didn’t like it for that reason, humour and serious issues can be effective bedfellows in the hands of a decent scribe, and Sophie Kinsella isnae bad at the craft.
