'Social Groups' Questions

Hey! Sorry if these questions have been answered elsewhere, not logged on for a bit.

Was wondering if it's possible to change the picture for Social Groups? One group (Cats) has a picture but the others do not. Is it something at this point only mods can add? It would be nice to have pictures on Social Groups, would be able to pick one out from the other more easily and would be more colourful!

Also, is there any plan to add group categories? Would be easier to search through groups as more and more are being added all the time?

Yep - each group can have its own picture! I think the creator of each group can upload a picture - not sure about the remaining members of each group - as well as Mods.

"On upgrade from < 3.8, existing groups are moved to an initial 'Uncategorized' category, which can be renamed."

Thanks for the reply.

How do you change the picture if you created the group? I've created a few groups and can't seem to change the pictures. Under 'group tools' it doesn't list that and when I click 'edit group' it doesn't allow me to either. (Hope I'm not missing something obvious! )

If you go to the group you wish to add an icon to, and select 'Edit Group' (bottom-left), you should be presented with a screen that looks a bit like this:



That being the case, you can add an icon in much the same way as you do an avatar

It's also worth noting that different discussions can now be created a bit like threads on the main discussion board. This is much better than the old style which just allowed one long 'discussion'.

Definitely. The discussions also read like a thread, in that they run from the top with the oldest post through to the most recent.

When I click on 'edit group' it gives me the first screen you posted, but not the second one.... It lets me edit the name and details but there is no 'edit group icon' box...

Now all I have to is pressure all the other group admins to add images to their groups!

Was it set so only mods could update them, or was it just me that was blocked?

So are group categories going to be introduced in the future?

Just you No - it was set by default that only mods could change them.

I should think so, although I must admit I haven't taken the time to check out how it works. I'll post up some info just as soon as I can
