Don't use chat. But I don't plan too either so that one.

Chat can be intimidating at first.
The forums feel more like people have time to reply, to carefully construct their points of view, so you might get a higher level of discourse.
In the chatroom people just chitchat crap most of the time ( not Edbander though, he always makes solid contributions )

It should have had a 4th option, both! I get worried about posting on the forum as much as I do about chatting. I have tried to post but feel that nobody will be interested in my posts anyway.

I've not used the chat feature here, but other online chat facilities overwhelm me with others' responses coming too fast for me to keep up. Forum interactions are far more my sort of pace.
