I hate texting a conversation with a passion, I'm just so lazy and lack any enthusiasm for it... I prefer a keyboard.

So no, I text no one from here.

I text a couple of people from here, but they are people I know from the chatroom and consider that I 'know' them reasonably well...

I still can't answer the phone to them though, lol
(sorry!)

I'd have no probs with texting people from here once I felt I'd gotten to know them well enough. The fact that, in a sense, it is another step closer to talking wouldn't bother me at all.

If they have given you their number I'm sure they wouldn't mind. I text a couple of people from here.

I didn't really answer your question with my reply before.
Imo, texting someone is a world away from phoning them...a text is not much difference from getting an email or an MSn really in that you can choose to ignore it, can reply in your own time, or can pretend you never received it (lol). A phone call is another thing altogether. So I would say that yes, a text is ok because ppl have the option whether to reply or not. A phone call however, is something I personally would keep only for people I knew very well and had pre-arranged with. Just my thoughts...I'm sure some ppl love to receive random phone calls but I don't like them even from pplk I know!

Texting is fine, I text 5 or 6 people from here (well chatroom) and they pretty much all gave me their numbers very early into meeting them. But I'm sure it all depends on the person and how paranoid they are.

Go for it

In fairness, sitting in a crowded airport, waiting for my travel agent to phone, barely able to hear anything over the tanoids, going away alone for several weeks, and about to experience 20 hrs of travel through remote Angola...I was never going to be in my most positive frame of mind for a chat! I thought your call was going to be my travel agent!
Sorry anyway.

I have found this aswell quite a few people have asked to be friends on MSN but it is hard sometimes to keep the conversation going when it is one or two word answers.
I understand that for some it's the anxiety and SA maybe preventing them from opening up a little, but come on we are all safe in our rooms or homes in front of a pc or laptop.
But hey if it gives comfort that we are in the friends list then I'm happy with that

I have texted people in the past but texting's not really my cup of tea. Novelty wore off a long time ago, is far too laborious and seems impersonal (don't know why). Only would text if it was important or in reply to someone else's text..

I agree Winnie, the novelty of texting someone is pretty non-existent for me nowadays.

What gets me is how some people get upset if you do not reply to a text within an hour or a few, they seemingly take it personally.

Default Re: Do many of us on here text each other??

I have a nokia program on my computer which means I can compose and send a text on my computer and send it via my bluetooth connected phone. (a usb cable would also work). Very hand when composing really long texts.

It is quite funny with this phone being connected to my computer because of the range. I can leave my flat, go downstairs, outside the building and walk round the corner. I'll then hear a beep and my phone will tell me it is no longer connected via bluetooth.

So anyone texting me (receiving texts from me) should be able to tell if I'm connected to my computer. A long text will mean yes. Short "yes" or "no" answers will mean I'm not connected.

It is quite a handy program as a photo of the person calling will pop up in the corner of my computer when they phone me.

So if you have big fat clumsy fingers this program can make you out to be a super fast texter. Oh yes, another thing - when connected I text out words in full rather than textspeak.

god, i hate phones. I use my touch screen for the internet on the train. Ther only people i text are my sister, my mum, and a guy i used to work with who lives hundreds of miles away.

It's useless to me most of the time, and i'd be happier if they never existed.

Rant away Stevie

there're websites that'll let you send a limited number of texts per day from your PC for free as well, which can be handy for long messages. With some sites, you risk getting spam texts afterwards, but some are legit, e.g. http://www.cbfsms.com/

My phone's so old it only texts in capitals, which tends to come across all SHOUTY.

The only texts i send these days are to enter TV competitions...
