Naturally, I've been watching Game of Thrones. I'm glad the most spoiler tastic episode in recent history is over with and we can now move on and not have people trying to spoil stuff for everyone and never have spoilers ever again

In other news, I decided to start watching Mad Men. I seem to have a habit of choosing a long running show to watch at the beginning of every summer. Well, at least I know I'll have stuff to watch for the next few weeks xD

Breaking Bad

Normally it takes me so quick to marathon a show but this for some reason has taken me years between seasons

The Fall on the BBC (Kurt Wallander in a skirt) - think that someone at the BBC is really into scandinavian crime fiction!

Thought, the post "Good Friday Agreement" backdrop is interesting.

I watched The American on the weekend. I heard it was like Homeland, so I thought I'd give it a go.
It was nothing like Homeland, I can't believe they compared it, it's like comparing vomit with fine French food.

Up to date with Homeland now. I stopped watching it mid-season for some reason
Still haven't watched season 6 of Mad Men so that's what I'm working on next.

I see what you're saying, and I used to think that Brand had this potential to be a great comedian, too, but what I've grown to realise is that what you see with him is actually all what's there :/. No doubt that he can genuinely be funny at times, but that's it - there's nothing more there. He's a cocky, 'problem child' with a massive sense of entitlement. 'oh look, I'm Russell Brand. I can be a comedian, and take drugs, and go out with Katy Perry, but also make "serious" documentaries on drug addiction and appear before parliament - but dressed as some sort of cowboy from a gay porno." **** off, you ****.

Most of his recent television appearances amount to nothing more than "oh look, I'm Russell Brand". Billy Connolly could probably be accused of the same sort of laziness, but at least he had a decent body of work behind him before he stopped feeling the need to try.

I like Brand's writing. I read his book - sorry, his "Booky Wook" - and I thought it was surprisingly good. I downloaded it on my Kindley Windley. He writes the occasional decent piece for the Guardian too. He probably writes that stuff while cycling around an empty swimming pool on a unicycle, wearing his gay porno cowboy costume, but when I don't have to observe his irritating mannerisms and desperation to appear oh-so-fucking-zany, I stop disliking him. Briefly.
In fairness, I don't typically like stand-up, so it takes something very special - and usually very unorthodox - for me to appreciate a stand-up routine, so I guess that's where my bias comes into it, too. Maybe you've just seen a lot more of him than I have, but, generally, the guy just pisses me off, and I just wish he could be a real person, instead of this caricature that he's created. Even when he's in a serious setting, talking about drug addiction, or something, there's this aura of menace and bullshit around him.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not completely condemning the guy. He no-doubt has a lot of good going for him, and I can find him funny/entertaining at times, but in general, he really is a ****.

That being said, I saw him recently on Ellen (pfft, "recently" - it was over a year ago), with those little Essex girls, and I really liked that.

Just finished season one of The Returned (Les Revenants) really enjoyable, despite the tortuous Mogwai soundtrack.

Now starting on HBO's 'Family Tree' with Chris O'Dowd (guy from the 'IT Crowd')

Have you tried Girls on HBO instead? I only caught an episode of it, but it didn't seem anywhere near as dated as something like Sex in the City.

I recently finished Utopia, which came out of leftfield for me. Hadn't heard anything about it before. The first three episodes were fantastic, but it kind of lost it's way towards the end trying to be a bit too tricky with things.

I've been meaning to watch more of it. I really dislike the way Lena Dunham gets shit off people online simply for being atypical.
