Ah, I forgot it wasn't in more rural areas. I live in a village and get it here no problem, but I am right near a town which is just outside a city.

You might have already said, but have you checked out any of the volunteer driver services? There are a few that take people to appointments, or even just to the shops or wherever. There might be something like that local to you?

I don't think what he's saying is at all restricted to people on the spectrum.

That's really good news, it sounds like the Therapist might have some understanding of autism I hope you can get the extra support if you need it.

Autistic people should absolutely never be 'detained' in this way! They need autism specific treatment and care which is entirely different to what people with serious mental illnesses need (but people with mental illnesses should not be treated in this way either.)

There are a couple of groups in neighbouring towns , but getting to them is a problem for me. I'm heavily reliant on my stepdaughter to take me places. That being dependant on her work schedule.

Autism researchers in the United Kingdom are growing anxious about Brexit — the nation’s planned exit from the European Union. In particular, they say, Brexit will make it harder to carry out the large international studies that the field increasingly relies upon.

“We had 30 years of people doing small-scale studies,” says Emily Jones, professor at Birkbeck, University of London. The only way to get a handle on autism’s heterogeneity, she says, is through studies that rely on thousands of participants. Being part of the E.U. has facilitated those large-scale efforts.

But as Brexit looms, the future of these big studies looks uncertain.

I would say I have some mild form of high functioning autism, and I know for a fact I have some of the genes that increase the chance of autism, all I know is I have a different kind of brain that is closer to people with autism in many ways, but I'm otherwise ok with my interaction with people and I still have a sense of and understand humor and things like that. I'm actually quite articulate at times, and I'm unusually intelligent when it comes to my understanding for very fundamental things, yet I struggle with spelling, I make a lot of silly mistakes, my hand writing is terrible and I've always been a bit clumsy. I have got to grips with things, but it took me a bit longer. I mean I'm at peace with the fact that my brain is unusual and it's frustrating for me, but I want to put it to good use somehow.

I just took this test and scored 38/50 (autism likely). Should I act on this? What can be done for an adult anyway?

What do y'all get when you do the test? Thanks.

I'm so prone to doing this ! Can anyone else relate to this ?

Does anyone else have trouble with this? When I am, for example, walking at the grocery store and there is someone coming toward me, I always wind up going the wring way. Like instead of going in the direction that would put me out of the oncoming person's path, I go in the direction that puts me right in their way.

^^ First seen about my mental health late 1973
First recognition I might be on the spectrum Oct 2018. That took moving to Wiltshire.
Asperger's diagnosis May 2019

Troublesome history with mental heath services in Essex. Seen as 'awkward, demanding and troublesome' by professionals who either couldn't be bothered to get to know me ,
or weren't intelligent enough to do so .

The latter is more acceptable than the former .

In practical terms getting a diagnosis at 62 means very little . Too much water has passed under the bridge. In non-practical terms it shows that it wasn't about me being a 'bad person'. That there's a reason why I am as I am . It vindicates what I've believed for a long time , that there was more going on than mental illness .

^ In my own case, I'm waiting to see a clinician about possible high functioning autism next month.
I also think that in my case, the suspected HFA has led to the depression and social anxiety due to lifelong social deficits.

^ I'm very soon 45. Late to be diagnosing autism. But a positive diagnosis will nevertheless explain a deal and come as something of a relief.

Interesting read here, I saw a link on Facebook:
https://theaspergian.com/2019/05/04/...hat-you-think/

It is a really complex thing. For me I could easily say that many parts of me fit the 'Person One' type, but if I could rid myself of anxieties then I would be entirely different.
