I loved Postman Pat and Fireman Sam when I was little.

What was the programme with the island with all the animals and a clown living there?

Fireman Sam gives me a warm, safe sort of feeling, same as Rosie and Jim. I associate it with being at home during school hours

Like my memories, the programmes were all in black and white. The only children's television was Watch With Mother, which used to be on at lunchtimes, before the network closed down and re-opened at 6pm with The News. Anyway, I remember:
The Woodentops
Andy Pandy
Bill And Ben
Camberwick Green
Trumpton (which came a little later)

and adult programmes (by which I mean programmes intended for adults, not programmes with adult content, there was none of that in the 1960s!) included:
Crossroads
Coronation Street
Emergency Ward 10
Dixon of Dock Green
Z Cars
Softly Softly

My absolute favourite, though, on Monday nights after News At Ten was Hammer House of Horror (I was never a child who went to bed early).

You just perfectly described the complex relationship I had with Eurotrash.
