Re: How much do you load your washing machine?
^ I use those things too because if I try to use washing powder I tend to spill it and it's really hard to clean round the side of the washing machine. But the cheap ones tend to melt and burst in the box and then you have a bunch of half-broken washing capsules stuck together in a sea of detergent... nasty.

Re: How much do you load your washing machine?
Mine's either usually 3/4 full or full. I still use old fashioned washing powder (Daz). I find the capsules a bit too strong sometimes - I used to do washing round my dad's for him and the scent was just too much unless it was part of a mega load.
I've never used softener, conditioners or other fancy stuff. :/ |

Re: How much do you load your washing machine?
The thing I struggle with is drying the clothes when they've been washed because we don't have a tumble dryer and it's not good enough weather to hang things outside at this time of year. Things take atleast a few days to dry hung on an airer infront of a radiator. Bedding is a nightmare.

Re: How much do you load your washing machine?
I do way too much washing and ironing to worry about niceties. Buck it all in and hope for the best is my approach.

Re: How much do you load your washing machine?
I do two washes a week one week. Usually 2/3 to 3/4 full on Mondays depending on whether I put the towel in, and about 3/4 full on Fridays .
The other week my bedding is changed so another wash load on a Wednesday. |

Re: How much do you load your washing machine?
Id say I use it once every 5/6 days or so.
Probably fill it up about 80-90% full. I just chuck everything in , use cheap Powder and wash at 40C. |

Re: How much do you load your washing machine?
I do most of my washing at weekends, or several times a week if someone else is washing things too.
The problem we have is getting it dry, we have got a clothes airer but sometimes my clothing still smells damp and needs to be washed again, any tips? |

Re: How much do you load your washing machine?
I do 'everyday' washing using Fairy liquid, at full capacity. For my son's school clothes, I wash them at the end of the week using Glo-White for his polo shirts and Shout! stain remover for when he's forgotten to put a pinny on before painting (AGAIN). I avoid putting them on a hot wash as much as I can because it utterly destroys clothes.
I hang his shirts up to dry in the wardrobe overnight and put his jumpers and trousers in the dryer, for some reason his polo shirts shrink in the dryer but nothing else does. I love Glo-White. I came across a magnificent product called Glo-White Ultra once and I almost came. There's nothing worse than grey-looking whites, he came out of school wearing another kid's shirt once and I was mortified walking home. Yes, I'm one of those mums. I also shine his shoes everyday. Fight me. |

Re: How much do you load your washing machine?
I fill the bath, add some sort of abrasive (usually sand) then get local children to stomp about in my bath for half an hour. Then I get them to run around the garden rotating my (now clean) laundry like helicopters in order to dry it. Kinda works. (I don't tell their parents about this, though. Our secret. Shhh...)

Re: How much do you load your washing machine?
I would take a washboard to the river and give it a hard rub.
When I was living away I would do a full load all the time, sometimes wearing underwear more than once. I would rather have a pedal-powered washing machine with solar-heated hot water & not use any utilities. Intermediate between the washboard and the automatic washer with the benefits of both. |

Re: How much do you load your washing machine?
I do wash my whites separately, but only because I put bleach in the wash with them and wash them at 90 degrees.
The only white things I have are bedding, dressing gown and shower curtain. |
