Yes I'm a white person. That's why I said I didn't get it, not 'you're wrong'.

Is the issue that the character died then? But a lot of characters have died in the show and provided turning points to the remaining main characters. Should they have used another character as the plot device in order to be less cliched and more sensitive? Is that the issue?

I don't really see how my comment about that is the genre is the same as excusing bad behaviour in the real world. It is the genre. I wouldn't watch something all about men fighting in a war and then complain there weren't any good female characters. It would just be weird. I realise it's not the same because there are lots of good female characters in TV shows.

I suppose a lot of writers will write about people like themselves. So if a writer is a white male, the main character is more likely to be a white male, so the risk of all the white male characters being killed off or given limited character development is low. Of course some writers are very skilled and so don't do this. There is definitely something to be said for having greater diversity amongst writers/producers in the entertainment industry because then that is less likely to happen. Plus the money people will often be more conservative and look at demographics and what has worked in the past. So they'll say things like, well we've never had a black protagonist in this genre, so we don't know if it will make enough money etc etc. Okay, getting a bit out of my depth here, but I generally think this stuff wouldn't happen if there was more diversity in the entertainment industry. It would just naturally correct itself. I suppose I don't see anything inherently wrong with people writing about people like themselves or their social circle. I would prefer to correct it by greater diversity in the industry rather than dictating to writers that they need to be more PC. I can see that leading to a lot of mediocrity.

Is it the dying that is the issue or the not being a main character that is the issue? I'm not totally clear on this.

Anyway....the Brienne and Jaime relationship has been handled really nicely. It was more interesting when it was all unspoken longing, but still. I like how Brienne has come to symbolise the chance of being a good man and being happy to Jaime, which he doesn't believe he deserves?

Only, what, two episodes left now

^It doesn't seem right to me though. I wouldn't have pictured them together, particuarly given Jamie's previous.......ahem........relations.

The latest offering is probably my favourite so far, though that's not saying much. Still a lot of bad decisions but this time they sort of faded into the chaos.

I enjoyed "watching it"

I'm treating it like a marvel film, terribly predictable story now but it was visually pretty/entertaining

Equal parts good and shit. It looked great. I didn't believe the Dany going mad thing though, because they just didn't show convincingly how it happened. It's a shame Martin didn't finish the novels in time, that's for sure.

I'd have preferred it if they'd waited until Martin had finished the novels before trying to finish up the series themselves.

I actually feel they ..didn't end it as badly as they could have

It was probably one of the better episodes of season 8 (that's hardly saying much)

Bit too happy though, felt quite out of character, I was getting LOTR vibes

we didnt even get to see any conversation about cersei being dead & bran is still bran when he gets told hes king

I did like the scene with tyrion & the others having their first meeting but i couldnt tell if alot of time had passed or not, like isnt most of the roof not still caved in? are the walls fixed now or what?

also i had a moment of excitement when tyrion went to find jamie & he came to the mountain of bricks & he saw light at the top & i thought 'omg theres a light what is it?!' ...oh..no ..its just from the sun

Eh, I don't mind the idea of Dany being the last big bad and Jon having to be the one to kill her (won't get toasted by dragonfire) and then being exiled. It's the way it was done. I mean I could write a poorly structured essay on all the wrong things. At least the last two episodes weren't as bad as episode four. I feel like they had a basic outline, and then they came up with ideas for all the cool things they wanted to do - like have a zombie dragon take down the wall for example - and then they kind of spliced it all together with no real respect for what had gone before or what made sense. I wouldn't say it was bad, just kind of ... unsatisfying.

But I kind of lost my hopes right from the start of season 7. Why did the people not rise up against Cersei? I thought she was going to be in a really sticky spot. I was all excited at the end of season 6. Then when season 8 started and Jon Snow was off saying - no one is allowed to say anything nasty about the finale because everyone has worked so hard on it, I thought, oh no, it's going to be shit. At least it wasn't too bad. I guess it's much harder to end a series with so many characters and so many different threads. Martin probably doesn't know how to do it either.

I think episode 5 was one of the best, but it needed more episodes than that sad conclusion

I was hoping for a more dramatic ending, it seemed to me like any tension was lost with the death early in the episode. I'm not that angry about it though, won't be signing any petitions.

I still can't get over what a hash they made of the ending and season 8. It's true that with the writing and story there are so many dead ends and non sequiturs you become numb to it, you stop even expecting any of it to make sense.
