I witnessed the immediate aftermath of a fatal accident this evening and I can't stop thinking about it. A motorcyclist had collided at high speed with a barrier and his bike burst into flames. He was thrown clear, but it was obvious from the body-language of the police at the scene (paramedics and firefighters hadn't arrived yet) that he was dead.

Can you go through life and not ever be summoned?

I'm doing quite well if that's the case.... unless they don't want loonies anyway :/

Yeah, I'll do it. I don't really have a reason not to. And it could be an interesting experience, right? Sadly, the thing that worries me most about it is the fair chance of bumping into my ex who lives a little bit up the road from the court.

How did you find it?

I think so. None of my immediate family have done it.

Just so you know though, tonight I'll be praying to Fortune, sacrificing a few animals, throwing some weird looking dice on some dusty ground, getting jiggy with a witch and dancing around my handbag that you do get summoned.

Award for stupidest thing said today goes to the woman who just claimed we were trying to fob her off regarding her phone repair because she's a woman.

Do rude people genuinely believe they are not going to get much worse service due to their attitude? because that's always been the way it's panned out wherever I've worked.

If you're capable of it, why not. It probably will be interesting.

Ah, that's good to hear. According to the info pack I got it usually lasts 'up to two weeks', but it can be longer, apparently. We shall see, and surprisingly soon!

I quite liked jury service. Lots of waiting around though. You're there for two weeks unless you're picked for a trial and it goes on for longer than that, since you can't change jury members during a trial.

If it was me think I would need to go to the doctors and say I wouldn't beable to cope with doing it.

I bet you could do it though, Newbs. Most of it is just sitting around (I read and played games) and if you get a trial, most of it is like watching a really shit film. You might get a horrible murder trial or something, but most trials are really dull.

I got summoned a few years ago but didn't do it. If you have a diagnosed MH condition you're exempt (and if I remember properly you can't actually do jury service). Couldn't have coped with it at the time, would be interesting to do it though.

It's way too nice to spend all day and all evening inside studying. And all weekend studying. Boo.

It's no longer true that you can't do it but I think it's still easy to be excused on medical grounds if you want

^^ Remember signing the petition for that now. Must have been even longer ago than I thought that I got summoned.

I was called for it, it clearly states on the information they send that you should be of sound mind or not suffering from mental illness. I just wrote a letter back stating my issues with the address of my GP and that was the last I heard from them.

I can smell gas. I thought I could smell it earlier when I was walking up the stairs to my flat and now I can smell it when I walk in the direction of my front door. I would contact someone but what if it's just me that can smell it and I'm being a wally?

There is a way to find out, but could potentially end up making a few neighbours all explodified.

I don't really want to go into the stairwell though. I would need to put some more clothes on How about I open my door and throw a molotov cocktail down there?

I bought a gas canister for camping today.

I worry about gassing myself to death while cooking in the porch.

People have died using gas canisters inside tents.

I shall leave it outside, and hope it doesn't get struck by lighting and blow the piss out of me.
