So we spent half the day telling the kids that if you're extra good and end up at the top of Santa's nice list, the elves sometimes leave a special box for you to open on Christmas Eve.
The time comes, and the boxes mysteriously appear in the evening.

'Wow! It's magic! Who do you think left the boxes, Oskar?!'

'I think it was the aliens.'

Mothers referring to their sons as their boys is about the most endearing thing I can think of.

My top three smiling moments of 2017.

A toddler shouting 'goodbye' to me as his mum picked him up from nursery and drove past.

My reaction when I told a smartly dressed man that he could have my seat so he could sit with his mother.

Music. It is always there for me whatever mood I am in. Dark moments when I want my heart and soul hugged, silly moments when i'm dancing around the kitchen or playing The Stripper ,sleep playlist,80s tripe, funk, french songs, synths, obscure songs that keep me at 13. You always reply

My Mum's watching Vera (crappy detective programme on crappy ITV) and Vera's close to solving the case. The programme finishes at 10.

My Mum just said, "Come on Vera, you've got 10 minutes!"

^ Don't knock Vera, some of it was filmed just up the road from me last summer, it was in the middle of the night! Her accents rubbish, but the scenery is top notch (but then I'm biased).

It's on for the whole evening! Two hours of Dancing on Ice and then two hours of Vera. I didn't watch Dancing on Ice though because I don't hate myself that much.

Somebody save or slay me on a Sunday.

Speaking to my niece on the phone,

Me - Hello, are you alright?
Niece - yes
Me - What have you been up to?
Niece - I'm making a scrap book.
Me - Oh that's nice, cut off I'm clearly boring her to death.
Niece - okay, bye, see you tomorrow lol

My four year old was distraught at bedtime, concerned about some toy that he'd suddenly remembered. I told him we'll find it in the morning and he said 'no, she'll be sad somewhere without me'.
I find it so impressive that he has so much empathy for a) an inanimate object and b) an inanimate object that wasn't even in his immediate surroundings.

A conversation with my four year old about the cost of toilet paper.

Him: Nine toilet rolls? I think that maybe cost a hundred pounds!
Me: No, that's way too much, it probably cost like, three pounds.
Him: Three pounds? That's not a lot.
Me: Well, think about it, you could buy twelve Kinder bars for three pounds.
Him: Waste of money, if you ask me.

I saw Appear (of sauk mod fame) in John Lewis today. My plan of pretending to be a mannequin and lie in wait of him to get his monthly fix of middle class socks finally paid off.

^^^ I've only just seen this post, otherwise I'd have put you straight on this sooner: I'm way too tight for John Lewis socks. My main motivation for visiting them is to bitch about their gimmicky kitchenware and to ogle all the Barbour-jacketed men with carefully careless floppy quiffs.

The mannequin thing is a cover. I bet you went there explicitly for a conical cheese grater. I can just see you at home with it, grating some carrot to sprinkle atop your Quorn cereal.

I went to Tesco today and they had a dragon boat there. A little old lady was sitting with it and she was holding a bucket to collect money for a cancer charity. I tossed a pound in there and as I walked away she said, “Waaaaaaaait a minute. You can bang the drum!”

Ugh....I couldn’t exactly tell a little old lady that looked well over 80 to do one. So I got roped into playing a drum on a dragon boat. It was bloody loud n all! I was blushing so much hahaha.

After a while I was like, “There ya go. That was fun. Bye!”

“Waaaaaaait a minute,” she said again. This time it was just to take a leaflet. Phewf.
