I look about a thousand years older than my age. That makes me 1045. Not that long ago while walking through a shopping centre some stupid rude salesman git called me and my Mother over. He said something like, "Do you and your wife........(whatever it was)". I can't tell you how much I wanted to sink into the ground and die. I keep getting people lately assume I'm their age too when they see my photo. Twice lately 2 different people have done that on Facebook, and they were both in their 60's for goodness sake. As if I'm not down enough as it is.

It's fairly easy to guess the age of children and some teenagers, but adults are more difficult. I don't see many people changing dramatically in their 20s, for example, so it's difficult to pinpoint someone's exact age. So I don't think it's a case of certain people looking younger, it's just a case of people assuming people will look a certain way for a specific age. People usually think I look younger. People think that my younger sister is older than me, but she's taller and more confident than I am. Whenever people in the real world tell me their age I never think that they look it. What does a typical x year old look like... well there's no answer, so people are bound to get ages wrong. Maybe people with SA seem a bit more meek, so come across as young because of that?

I'm thinking about this too much because I have more important things that I should be doing haha.

I think I must be average. There are some men my age that look really good and put me to shame, but then there are others that look dreadful. I think I look somewhere in the middle

You come across as mature on here, so I'm guessing it's your youthful looks.

I got asked recently what I was studying at uni. My bemused expression was met with the question "aren't you in your early 20's?" I'm 31. To me I look 35.

I am told I look a fair bit younger but people probably think that is what people want to hear. I certainly dont act my age so that may have an effect and I tend to hang around with people of random ages which would make it difficult I guess. I doubt I could guess their ages within 5 or even 10 years in some cases.

Age becomes far less important as you get older I find. In my opinion anyway.

No. It used to really annoy me. When I was 16 and started paying full fare on buses I was told by one or two bus drivers I could get away with paying child's fare!! When I was in my 20s and buying cigars for my older brothers I was humiliated in front of the a long queue of people by the assistant shouting to her boss "Can I serve this little girl cigars?". When I was 35 and buying a bottle of wine at supermarket on the way to my friends I was asked for ID, so yes it used to get on my nerves!

Now i am looking nearer my age, the days of me being asked for ID have long gone. People just tell me I don't look my age or I look good for my age!. I used to hate it when people used to say " You'll be pleased when you get older". But they were right!

Yeah I've had this problem a lot and I think it's a big factor in my lack of confidence. I'm 30 and look around 14 I guess maybe younger I don't know.

When people ask me my age nowadays I just try to joke it off because I really can't stand their reactions. Sometimes I lie and say I'm 19/20 and then silently cry to myself when they say I look younger.

I was having my eyebrows done recently and the lady asked me my age because apparently I "always look so young" which is a really weird thing to say because I don't think I've ever told her my age. Unless I gave them my date of birth when I first started going and she'd seen and was asking in disbelief. Probably thought I lying on the form because of course there's no way someone my age could look like that

I wouldn't mind if they said it as a compliment but it isn't so they're basically insulting me to my face!

I used to get asked for ID even at aged 30 when buying alcohol. Could never make up my mind if it was an insult or a compliment.

Maybe it's in the genes. My mum had lovely soft youthful skin for her age when she was older; my dad is 78 next month and looks about 60/65 when sitting down. Or country living maybe

Yeah I'm 25 and almost always get ID'd for paracetamol. I went out for a meal with my boyfriend when I was about 23 (one of the very rare times we went out 'cause I'm so phobic) and I had a load of complete and utter assholes at the next table talk about how 'there was no way I was even 16' and that my partner was a 'paedophile'. There was 5 years between us.

Some guy just creepily tagged alongside me on the street and started chatting me up, & said 'how old are you, like 18?' That's probably the oldest anyone's guessed my age -- but considering how he kept going on about 'how he must be at least twice my age' I think he was obsessed with 'young girls' in general and guessing upwards of his real estimation to cover himself.

It is very irritating and tiring plus it's often quite insulting, as so many people act like they think it's a bad thing despite the fact that it's just part of variety in life, and they employ no tact whatsoever. I feel less hurt by it now in a lot of ways as I recognise it as what it is and I know how old I am! The worst thing you can do is let them make you feel like a child and avoid buying drink etc.! It is a pain in the arse being talked to like a child and always having to prove yourself, though.

I looked incredibly young in my 20s and I stayed in my room during my uni years. I've since filled out and my face has developed lines and my hair is greying. But I'm told I still look young for my age. Having a full head of hair helps.

I don't know. I'm 24 and get ID'd most of the time. Some people are surprised to know that I'm 24 and apologise for asking for ID. But I don't look terribly young for my age at all. I don't exactly live a healthy lifestyle, I barely sleep and basically live on coffee and fags.

I never used to look my age but since I turned 50 I look it plus some!!!! The pounds have piled on and I have a double chin :-( Worse still, I'm beginning to feel my age. My vision is getting worse, my hearing seems to be on the decline and the last marble that I did have is becoming increasingly harder to hold on to!!

I am 47 and look about my age, though my clothes are maybe a bit younger (jeans, band t-shirts, hoodies). I don't like my double chin or my belly as it gives me a "settled" middle-aged look, but even though I have a gym membership and am starting to go I would be surprised if I lost more than about 10 pounds in the year to come. In short, I do look my age, but that's not my biggest problem at the moment.

I don't really get ID'ed anymore (the last time I got ID'ed I was about 27)

I could probably shave and get away for looking younger if I wanted to..but who wants to shave..that just involves additional maintenance, cant be chuffed!

(I'm 31)

People say that I don't look my nearly 50, although I have a few grey hairs coming in on my sideburns. Some people who were in the same year as me look nearer 60 than 50, must have hard paper rounds!

I always used to look younger than I am - when I started driving, I got stopped so often (on the assumption that I was a teenage twoc-er) that I had a grow beard and until I was 21, I was still able to get away with child fares on buses (back then the age at which one had to pay full fare in London was 14) and still had a child season ticket for The Valley (to be honest, the club probably noticed but at the time the average home gate was under 10,000 so they didn't want to lose anyone!). Before my last job ended (I was 49), I returned from the summer break without having shaved my head and people remarked that I was going grey early - it transpires that they thought I was a decade younger than I actually was!

These days, I think I look my age, as long as I keep my head and face shaved, but look older if I allow it to go grow as my beard is usually white and my hair grey (or "salt & pepper"); it doesn't help that I seem to be the only man of my age in the East Midlands who doesn't have a bottle of "just for men" (or whatever they use) in the bathroom (I do get told quite often that I should let my hair grow out and dye it), so in a world where men in their 60s have a full head of dark hair, I look at least 70!

I've always looked older than I am most of my life (which was handy when I was 15 and could get served in a pub) but recently I've heard that I look younger than my age. Ok, whatever age people think I am I'm still an ugly ****. Looking like a young ugly **** hardly makes me feel better about my mess of a face. Oh well.

I look younger than my age and my peers, and I've always harboured a possibly nuts theory that because SAers arguably interact less with other people we don't necessarily have the speech or laughter lines that mark more gregarious faces. That said, it's surely mostly genes that determine these things - a friend of mine is fifty, has always smoked and drunk to excess, snorted and taken everything under the sun and still parties like he's 18 on very little sleep and he looks absolutely amazing and youthful, not a line or grey hair.
