My current view towards work

Posted 9th September 2015 at 11:33 by Amara 94

Recently I just got accepted to for a temporary Stockroom Assistant job role and I feel good about making some money and doing the job. Whilst I do feel this type of job is perfect for me at the moment I do get the feeling that other people would expect me to appear more ambitious as I am still young and after studying up to my A-Levels it isn't as if going for further education or a higher paying job is out of my arms reach.

But then I feel although, I am honestly all up for studying Higher education or doing an apprenticeship/internship or whatever to help my career I honestly don't really know what job I truly would be satisfied doing at the moment. So I am not willing to spend a lot or put my time into something that I feel wouldn't benefit me, in the mental sense. I just feel so certain, presently that money and social image isn't necessarily the be all and end all when it comes to the quality of my life, of cause it is good for me but only to an extent.

"If you don't know now, When will you know?"

My mum's friend came to quickly visit our house, after few years of no contact, said this to me a few days after I quit my previous job.

Tbh, I don't really know when I would figure out what job I would love to do however I am interested in learning things. I have had periods where I feel I would love to do an activity/subject I am interested in as a job, for example, I posted about doing a car paint or Car body Repair apprenticeship. Other examples are web design and hair dressing but then with most of my interests I would say I don't have too much experience in them and after balancing the pros and cons of doing an interest as a job it's clear I need more experience and knowledge in the interest usually if I want to do it as a serious full time job. For example, as I saw through a Youtube video from someone in the motor trade, it's long hours and not so great pay when you are new to the industry and with all the things I want to learn and too little experience to really have a meaningful opinion on doing most of my interests, I don't feel it's worth the sacrifice doing something I "feel" I would be interested in.

I guess for now I need to spend some free time studying and trying to get experience of activities and just things I am interested in, especially when I am in work making some money. Although I would love to have a successful career I also know there is more to life such as having social support, friends, family and experiences.

Congrats on your job, I am really pleased for you, it was clear how hard you were pushing yourself to get interviews.

Not knowing is pretty common, very few people end up in the career they chose at 15, 20, 30 or even 40.

They tend to drift from one to another, either through random changes and short term inspiration or by seeing an opening in a firm they like. The firm is the constant the job can change, that is really common. It is good to think about these things but I wouldnt worry about it too much. Keep an eye out, see what grabs you, and all the time have a steady income from something you can manage.

I knew that engineer in a recording studio was definitely the job I wanted to do for the rest of my life, for sure, 100%.
I gave that up at around 21, you just dont know until you try things.
