Feeling brighter

Posted 26th April 2014 at 09:11 by Star Rainbow

I am grateful to have had the space to post here. And I outed my sticky mood on the nutrition forum, so it's like I've blemished my stainless journal.

People pleasing and perfectionism! I know a young woman (not me!) who tires herself out trying to 'be happy' and 'make the best of things' and she just comes across as a bit weak and vague, she never states her true preference, for fear of offending.

Happiness is a choice, to the extent that however cr*ppy I'm feeling, I can usually detach to the point of knowing I'm in a cr*ppy mood and not be swallowed, consumed and inseparable from it.

Even to hold the thought that tomorrow could be different, this too shall pass. Calling to mind that happiness does exist, as a concept.

One of my fave teachers, Robert Masters, uses the phrase 'spiritual bypassing' to describe when we're faking our mood and not attending to the bedrock reality of feeling. I think the term may originate with John Welwood, another great teacher, possibly my fave blended psychotherapist/Buddhist.

I'm adjusting my diet to help my mood, though it's pretty tyrannical and naive to insist I can eat my way into better mood. But I do really well without processed food and dairy. Funnily enough - those are my cravings

There's a glimmer, an inking of an inner uplift, almost a tiny smile, somewhere in the abdomen. I'm going to pay that some attention and see if it will extend throughout the body. A good vibration. Not quite the dancing banana, maybe this smile Would like to feel like that dancing banana some day.

Maybe one of the reasons for feeling a little more perky is that on Saturday I generally give myself permission to enjoy a total day off. From everything, should I choose so. So I'm tapping this from bed, in jammies, with third cup of tea and the lovely feeling of no pressures, nothing to do. Sat is the busy day of the week in town, so its a bit skilful to avoid the busy-ness of that and hang out here at home.

Happy Saturday

Good read again. Coincidentally I have just been looking at a youtube video on spiritual bypassing from TheSpiritualCatalyst. I don't understand all her ideas but some of the subjects really interest me. I am also more aware of how our diet affects our mental state especially in regards of sleeping and feeling calm as opposed to constant anxiety. Hope you had a good Saturday.

Hi Thanks for the encouragement. I will check out the vid you mention. Yes, the diet -mood thing is huge. I can too easily self-medicate with starch and sugar, whereas my body seems to require higher protein/fat for metabolic gains.
    Glad you dropped by!
