It could be that the week with friends would break the cycle of low feelings and help you take the focus away from this. Usually if we can give ourselves new focus it helps to gradually feel better...

It could be that subconsciously, you feel that by being loud yourself that it would be challenging them for an alpha status and to prevent confrontation you go quiet (submissive)

I've started using a W8.1 machine along with my Mac and just can't get used to 8.1. Preferred W7. 8.1 is trying too hard to be the cool hip kid on the block.
