I'd like to learn how to use R because I need it for various work-related things, but (1) I lack adequate brain power, and (2) I don't have free the copious amount of time it would take.

^ good luck with Georgian, it's one of the most difficult languages on the planet. It does look nice in written form though.

^ Yes, tomorrow! I know how difficult it is, I've been trying to learn it (the main stumbling block, of course, is the alphabet). Armenian is no easier and I'm landing there (I actually reach Georgia on the 2nd).

I think I'll be fine, as I'm reliably informed that Russian is still widely spoken (although I thought using Russian might be culturally insensitive), but my main worry is about reading the destinations on the front of the marshrutky (minibuses).

I so wish I could speak another language! I might try to learn German – not my first choice language, but at least I have a very basic knowledge from my schooldays which might help me to get started.

^ I used to think I was good with languages, but the more I travel, the less adequate I feel. I do get by in most countries, but it's little more than that and almost everywhere I go, the locals speak English better than I speak their language.
