Re: How is everyone feeling? (31)
Every day I wake up and think how mad I've been. It's just weird. It's like going full on method acting and losing grip on which is you and which is the character and it's some mental shit. Smh, as they say on the internet.

Better.
Finally in my own place. My bed is directly beneath a skylight. Spent a lot of yesterday lying on it looking at the clouds and stars. Peaceful bliss really. |

Re: How is everyone feeling? (31)
Feeling like a massive failure at the moment at massive lack of achievement in my life. The Olympics are making this worse as well, it's one thing being good at a sport but some of the athletes there have day jobs too - how do they manage to cram so much success into their lives.

Re: How is everyone feeling? (31)
Compared to my father and sister I'm a total failure. A bit of voluntary work I couldn't cope with,no paid job. No degree unlike my contemporaries at public school.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Tyrie Same birthdate different house. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dieter_Helm Year above me. Same school house. That's just a sampling of successful contemporaries. Some days it really hits home that I'm one of life's abject failures; with a blank sheet when it comes to achievements of any real value. Don't get me wrong. I'm low on the ambition/competitiveness scale.But at 16 if I'd been told I'd end up as a 'never was' 64 year old, needing support to maintain a basic lifestyle, I would've given you a look of sheer disbelieve. |

Re: How is everyone feeling? (31)
been feeling the same fm and lmm. I have no real achievements to speak of, I am not really a career driven person but it's been depressing to think about lately especially when comparing myself to others like me. employment has been a lifelong struggle and I am long term unemployed. I figured I had come to terms with my limits but for whatever reason recently I have been wanting more than I can actually cope with and the confliction is really bothering me. I feel in my case it's delusions of grandeur to think I can even have a normal life.

Re: How is everyone feeling? (31)
Must be tough, Firemonkey. That is a lot of pressure. I've done a lot worse than I should have, have a normal background, grew up in Toryshire etc. But I suppose for social mobility to work, some of us need to be downwardly mobile. Unless it's an era where more people are moving up. I never really cared that much though, would have happily settled for average.

Re: How is everyone feeling? (31)
Firemonkey, you are in no way a failure! What was a failure was the system that meant you weren't correctly diagnosed as being on the autistic spectrum until much later in life and therefor missed out on support which could have helped you make use of your many talents and abilities.

Re: How is everyone feeling? (31)
^^ I hope you get over it soon! Hope it’s not affecting you too much.
I’m absolutely horrified after seeing a video of myself. I was watching a steam train go past at a station, and someone else on Twitter filmed it, and I’m on the video. I look absolutely awful. The thing is, I didn’t realise it was me and I thought I looked wierd, before I knew it was me. My physical disability is quite obvious, and I didn’t think it was. On a recent visit to Liverpool, on two separate occasions people took the piss about how I was walking. I wasn’t being paranoid, it was obvious. (There were some lovely people in Liverpool, but there were a fair share of utter arseholes that’s for sure) Im upset about this. Really upset. It’s no wonder no ones ever been interested in me. |
|
|||
Re: How is everyone feeling? (31)
^ A disability shouldn't be something to laugh at though should it. Someone appearing different isn't a reason to make fun of them. We've got so much further to go in this country in terms of accepting people who are different in any way I'm sorry it upset you so much.

Re: How is everyone feeling? (31)
^ aw, Tembo. I bet you looked just fine. The weather at the moment isn't very flattering on the hair front, I've found.
People can be really cruel. Remember that random strangers know nothing about us and so their opinions are uninformed and therefore not very meaningful. Plus it says more about them and their character to be dissing people they don't even know anything about. What is your physical disability? |

I don’t want to go into details about my disability, but it affects my walking, and I’m unable to do anything more than walking. Usually, I forget I have it, until other people remind me about it. It’s not always intentional though. I think it’s why I often prefer to do things alone. It wasn’t just about my disability though - I felt I looked a lot older than my late 20s. Receding hairline, they way I was standing/walking. Urgh, maybe I’m being too sensitive. |
|
|||
Re: How is everyone feeling? (31)
^ You made it to Liverpool then, Tembo? I don't think you look weird at all - and certainly not older than late 20s (slightly younger, if anything). I haven't noticed anything wrong with the way you walk, either - but perhaps it's something which is only noticeable when you're tired, which is when my dyspraxia is most likely to present itself.
I don't know what you were doing that made those people laugh in Liverpool, but another way of looking at it is that you brought a smile to someone's face. People only laugh at others to cover their own inadequacies. |
|
|||
Re: How is everyone feeling? (31)
^^ stuff like that always seems to happen when we're feeling like shiz about things. The timing is always spot on!
Well, all I can say is that they don't know what an absolute sweet pea you are, Tembo! You definitely don't deserve to have random people being cruel. Would it be a nice thing to be part of a support group to talk through these things with people who are also living with a similar disability? |
|
|||
Re: How is everyone feeling? (31)
I'm sorry that happened to you, Tembo! Some people! But as gregarious_introvert has said, they are covering their own inadequacies. I also can't imagine they would be happy with themselves either to be that way in life. And you can only hope that they will start liking themselves more and then hopefully they will start to bring sunshine and positivity to the world. Either that, or someone one day will give them a sharp punch to their nads. Which in turn, will also help to bring sunshine and positivity to the world. Not that I condone such actions of course.

Re: How is everyone feeling? (31)
I lost my job 3 months ago. I had been there for almost 20 years. I feel pretty terrified about my future. I know I need to make a cv, but keep procrastinating. I just keep watching films. I don’t know what will become of me, I’m so pathetic.
